Considering how bad Smid has been, I really don't see the point of this post. Broissoit was a need as a bunch of you have been whining about in this thread. So we move and overpaid guy who could barely play d on the worse team in the league for a decent goalie prospect and then the move gets called out?

Never change hfoil

It was a gutsy trade at the time. Brossoit was an ECHL goalie and a long shot to ever be an NHL player. He's developed well since then, and made the trade look respectable, but it's still too early to call at this point. Getting rid of Smid for Ference is a wash at best right now.

We already had Ference so I'm not sure what he really has to do with this deal. He was going to be here regardless.

Brossoit was in the ECHL, because CGY had no room. He was quite good in the ECHL and apparently our scouting department liked what they saw out of him.

And no it's not too early. We got rid of a bad contract for a need. Guys want us to just waste picks on goalies, but when we get rid of a bad contract it's not a good deal? The money saved in itself is a win

2012-13 was a solid season for Dubnyk. He did not have a poor reputation from outside the fan base, it was just nuanced. "He's a good young goaltender who could be a good starter but he's not the next superstar like some fanboys are suggesting"

He had a poor start to the season and was dumped.

While I can agree with you that Dubnyk was never going to find his game while still an Oiler. , it might not have gotten to that point without management and coaching failing to support him either.

The guy clearly has the talent to be an NHL goaltender, so why werent the Oilers able to get him there?

Why did it get so bad that a good, talented guy wasn't able to reach his potential. Why did he find the tools in Phoenix to focus himself? Why didn't the Oilers have that?

Because we had a horrible goalie coach (who's now back with him ), who completely ruined his technique, and took him away from the basic goaltending fundamentals. And let's not forget Nashville and Montreal both didn't want him

lol, the bolded part is so foolish almost not worth a comment.

- Most important position on a team.
- Oilers have just been killed by awful t3ending for 3 or 4 years.
- Oilers have zero good young prospects in goal until they take a flyer on a 6th round pick from another team.
- They thought so much of Brossiot coming out that they picked 8 other players before he was chosen in the 6th round.

Didn't you say something along the lines of just taking a shot for the sake of it?

And if you actually listened, MacT was quite clear on go after guys that have a bit of experience under their belt as drafting goalies was a crap shoot. Getting guys with a couple years of experience post draft was something he wanted to do.
