Despite injuries, similar record to last season. The East is tougher this year.

This year can turn in either direction.
We are still in the hunt and that is what was expected.

Lamoriello has had a long time to address our offensive issues, we'll see what he does today. He's already raised expectations around here and that's a good thing.

Overall, the team is over performing. I'm not sure we could have hoped for a better season. We're pretty much on track with last year's wildly successful campaign only this year, the rest of the Metro is over performing as well. The best version of this team is pretty tough to beat. The not so ideal version has a tough time scoring. Hopefully we stay healthy and continue to take advantage of opportunities hit the homestretch strong.

I'd love to upgrade this team in a vacuum but unfortunately there doesn't seem to be too much available for the price most of us want to pay - including Lou. That's the way it goes sometimes.

I'd give them a grade of B+/A-.

I’d say C+. Floating around the 7th and 8th seed is pretty much where expectations placed them.

Injuries and a slumping top 6 have dropped my grade from A to B in the third quarter.

I said B, I think they'll be battling Carolina for the last Wild Card Spot. Based on recent play (last 10 for all eastern teams). I could see the playoffs being a lot different than we imagined at the beginning of the year....

Metro
1. PHI 105.6
2. NYR 104.0
3. PIT 103.1

Atl
1. BOS 115.2
2. TBL 111.6
3. TML 93.8

WC
1. WSH 101.1
2. CAR 96.0
3. NYI 95.0
4. BUF 92.0
5. CBJ 87.9
6. FLA 87.2
7. MTL 84

I have no idea what I'm looking. You think Philadelphia and the Rags are going to top Pittsburgh and Washington?

I'll jump back in so you can bust my balls. Basically, it looks how teams have played in their last 10, and then extrapolates that over their remaining games. In the east the Rangers are the hottest team right now, then Boston, Philly, and Tampa. Then Pittsburgh, Toronto, Carolina. We're 4-5-1 over the last 10. Yes it has the 0-4 road trip, but..... If the Rangers keep playing 8-2, then yes they'll get 32 pts.. They're 11-3 in their last 14, and they're the hottest team in the NHL right now.

And yes if we keep going 4-5-1, we'll only get 18 pts.

And if I keep shitting at the same rate I've been over the past hour, I'll take 24 dumps by tomorrow, dinner.

What a bizarre and arbitrary way "to see" the playoff picture.

That's fine. Don't think its arbitrary. And yes, if I did this when the Islanders were 16-3-1, they would have been forecast to get something like 140+ pts. Kind of like stocks, past performance doesn't guarantee future gains. But it is a metric to see how teams have played over the last 12% of the season and simply extrapolate that to the remaining ~20%.

Also, doesn't take into account who is playing who in the next month..

Boo this man.

I'd give the team a B.

Versus last year: Downgrade in goal; PP sucks even more; defense hasn't been as sturdy since Pelech went down; 3rd and 4th lines aren't as effective, plus Cizikas and Clutterbuck have been out and Martin isn't an effective 4th liner anymore. Instead, I'd like to see Martin as the 13th or 14th forward. However, I'm optimistic that Pageau will stabilize the lineup and help prevent guys from playing outside their respective roles.

Which makes it a completely useless way to look at things.

Is this a cumulative grade? Are we treating this like a 4 semester report card, or just an adjusted average?

I'd give them a C- for this latest quarter, but a solid B for the season grade to this point. Team hasn't looked the same for awhile.

In our last 20 games we got 20 points...it's really that not crazy of a stretch to say we only get 18 points the rest of the season.

I disagree, we’re getting past injuries and will be healthy for the first time in 2020 in a week or 2 (barring other injuries).
Once we have all 4 lines back (especially Zeeker) I think we get hot at the right time.

The Isles schedule is pretty easy down the stretch. I looked at the opposing 7-8 teams and it seems like the Isles schedule is by far the weakest. The last 6 weeks they’ve been beating up bad teams and not doing well against good teams. If that continues they’ll get in. Not sure they get anywhere once in though

Assuming Cizikas/Clutterbuck come back soon and we avoid any other major injuries, I found it very hard to see us missing the playoffs. I think there is a better chance we finish in the 2/3 divisional spot than miss entirely. Outside of the abysmal road trip, we took a point against the hottest team in the league (Rangers) and the defending stanley cup champs on the road. I'll bank those points any day.

Our schedule gets "easier" on paper after Boston this weekend and team gets a boost with Cizikas back soon. The other teams in the mix Flyers/Penguins/Hurricanes/Rangers/BJs have a ton of divisional games against one another down the stretch. That's a whole lot of points left on the table for somebody even if it takes us a few more games to get back in stride.
