Besides the fact that generally the best goalscorer is going to be better than the best defensive player, the Selke is purely subjective, and defensive play is the hardest part of the game to measure. At least with the Rocket, no one can really question your win. (Though HF will still try)

Forwards can benefit tremendously on who is playing beside them. Guentzel got 40 goals this year... to say he didn't benefit a lot from Crosby would be ridiculous. What if a team is very deep, and a player ends up with the Rocket one year playing on a third line against the oppositions third line? Plenty of hypothetical situations that COULD happen, that could perhaps tarnish the argument that the Rocket = league's best goal scorer.

Forwards playing on offensively-minded teams are at a disadvantage to those playing on defense-first teams with regards to a Selke. Using Selke as an argument to the 'league's best' defensive forward is just as bad as using the Rocket for the league's best goal scorer - the difference is the Rocket is awarded with a true basis whereas the Selke is awarded on reputation.
