I just don't see what they have to lose in firing him now and trying something, anything different. Everyone seems to accept DJ will not be the guy to carry the team to success and be there long term, so they're either cutting bait now or in the summer.

It's also unfair to the players and DJ himself. It has to be uncomfortable for him, he knows what's coming, and it isn't an extension. And the players have to answer the questions.

It is a very obvious decision to make from my seat, but that's just my opinion.

I get the feeling there was something that happened between point one, and point two, which may have led to Dorion using point one as and excuse for point two.

playing better defense has to be priority number 1 .
Team Defense has to be the focus as it should have been for the past several seasons.

There is a lot of work that needs to be done. From a distance, I see progress. First, we have a new owner who is saying the right things. Second, we have dismissed the fake GM and will have a new GM in the not too distant future. Third, the coaching staff will be changed at some point soon. The pro scouts also need to be reviewed and addressed. Progress is slow but happening.

We all know Dorion and JD are mediocre (at best). We all know both should've been gone long ago. But the sale and timing screwed us over this year. We can't go back in time and fix it.

At the same time...let the organization and players feel the boos. Let them twist in the wind a bit. Let everyone (fans and organization alike) scream and yell and get it out of their systems. This season is a test. A test of who has the inner fortitude to battle through some adversity and see who buckles under the weight of expectations. Anyone who fails the test should be changing their home address next summer.

Thinking about it the last few days, I'm looking forward to separating the wheat from the chaff here.

Very good comment. I'm fine with waiting a bit if that's what the new regime wants to do, ideally I would like to see these same players under a different coach for at least part of this year. It's harder for management to evaluate them properly as this is the only NHL coach most of them have played for. An interim coach might help just by being a new voice, maybe some of the guys will respond better to him than they did to DJ ? It's also hard for the players to make a judgment on a coach on a sample size of 1.

DJ seems like a great guy and I'd love to have a beer with him and talk some hockey but given his record it's very hard to make a case to keep him. If he turned it around and took these guys on a run to the playoffs I'd be the happiest guy in town.

I'm definitely not the guy to be talking about advanced stats, I'll leave that to those who are better with them than me. Their last 3 games have been their worst from the eye test, and if I'm reading most of this stuff right, the advanced stats test as well.

Even the most basic stuff though, that you can see just by watching.

The first 4 games they were 128 SF, 111 SA for a +17 shot differential

The next 3 they were 122 SF, 64 SA for a +58 shot differential

The last 3 without Chabot in the lineup (and it's obviously not JUST because of that):

80 SF and 117 SA for a -37 shot differential
