For a team that spends to the cap, IMO he is well worth his $1.25M cap hit.

I kinda view him like the forward version of Marincin. Tall lanky guys who are both incredibly good neutral zone players.

Marincin is terrific at defending and breaking up plays blue line to blue line. Engvall is also great at disrupting plays in the neutral zone, and offensively his speed and size allows him to carry the puck up ice with ease.

On the other side, both make terrible decisions with the puck in the defensive zone at times. Fortunately for Engvall there are 4 forward lines to only 3 d pairs, and for me he's a 4th liner fairly easily. If he cleaned up the d zone play he'd be a quality 3rd liner.

Hopefully Engvall's dilemma is which side of the press box to sit in. If he plays it means we either burned through 2 bodies or we are losing the series.

Marincin is good at nothing

He’s replaceable by a league minimum contract. If they’re trying to save money, this is an easy place to do it.

If you can find a reasonably effective forward that can play centre for league minimum....sure.

There's times where Engvall looks like a great option to play on a third line with Robertson and Mikheyev next year.

There are other times where he looks completely lost being in the NHL.

I like Engvall. I am still not sure what he actually is.

I don't think he knows either, and that's probably most of his problem.

He'll be looking for 1+ on his next contract then too. Most years we'll be spending more the same money or more to fill out that C spot.

If Brooks wants more than he's worth, he should be replaced too. We're talking about 4th liners here, so they shouldn't be costing more than league minimum.

Dubas has shown a good ability to bring in cheap veterans, unsigned UFAs, and young ELC players. We should take advantage of that.

Reliable Cs come at a premium, there isn't a Spezza available every year willing to sign at less than half of what his production warrants. If anything we should be looking to get the 3C under 3 mil and budgeting 1-1.5 for a PK specialist 4C. The wingers and #5-7 D are where you can get good value at league minimum.

I thought we were talking about Pierre Engvall.... why are we also talking about reliable centres coming at a premium? The guy is a 4th liner.

I do agree that we should be looking for a good #3 centre to replace Kerfoot at a cheaper price.
