More of a hobby news item that concerns segment, someone had this kind of luck: Rare 1955 Mickey Mantle baseball card found in pack opening at national convention
Chris Rothe paid $500 to take a random spot in a drawing for an unopened, 20-card cello pack of 1955 Bowman baseball cards at the National Sports Collectors on Friday.
Rothe was assigned the No. 19 slot and won a near-pristine Mickey Mantle card, Sports Collectors Daily reported.
Pack owner Leighton Sheldon, who bought the rare pack at last year’s convention from a longtime dealer, decided to sell spots for his new venture, VintageBreaks.com, charging $500 per slot. While the price was steep, the entire cello pack was valued at $10,000 and every slot was taken, Sports Collectors Daily reported.
The winner was offered $50,000 for the card.

How many wins are they on pace for, something like 115?
They might flirt with the magic 116 set by both Cubs and Mariners.
If they maintain their current pace, 9-1 in their last 10, they'll beat it. They need to play around .730 for the remaining 41 games to secure 117 wins.

Boston will likely start resting some of their guys in September.
2nd best team in the whole MLB, Yankees, are 10 games behind. Will have to play a wildcard game to get into postseason and people complain about NHL playoff format not being fair.

And poor Orioles are 50 games below 500, 50.5 games behind Red Sox. In modern baseball, largest gap between best and worst team was 65.5 games (1909 season). Decent chance for this record to fall.

I kinda hope to see the Yankees finish 2nd in the MLB and lose the wildcard game since it would hopefully lead to a discussion at examining the MLB playoff system. Having a team with the second best record lose in a wild card game just isnt right.

Same issues with NHL playoffs as well. 1 - 8 makes perfect sense to me. This "rivalry" excuse is complete BS. It's absolutely to give lower placement teams a better opportunity to advance.

They've spend a ton of money on guys that are completely untradable in Chris Davis and Mark Trumbo too. The whole franchise is a bit of a hot mess.
