The Bruins win the Revolutionary War!

TUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUK

You know, there's some alternate universe out there where Forslund took the Boston job when it came open rather than coming with the team to NC and Jack Edwards is our play-by-play guy. Think about that. Edwards and Tracy.

So tired of this ****ing team.

The only games that are even remotely important are these kinds of spoiler games, and of course they ****ing lose.

I don't give a **** about whether they're battling, Mr. Forslund.

****. ****. ****.

Suddenly Tripp would be the sane, tolerable announcer.

I don't watch Hurricanes home games very often but I was surprised at the amount of Bruins fans in attendance. Is that usual?

Yes and no. When the team sucks and fan interest is down, there are more opposing fan bases in attendance, particularly from teams from the northeast. There are a TON of people (myself included) that have relocated down here from NY, PITT, NJ, PHILLY, BOS, etc... Some have become Canes fans, some root for the Canes except when their "hometown" team shows up and some are still diehard Sabres/Rangers/Bruins/Pens, etc.. fans.

A lot of us moved down here from the northeast to escape the high taxes, the ****** weather, the limited job market, high housing costs, the higher cost of secondary education, etc....that exists up there. That's why you sometimes see a high number of fans rooting for opposing teams.

Yeah there are tons of Boston transplants here. It was more than average tonight because the locals have checked out and tickets were available for cheap.

Depends on the team. Offhand, I'd say Boston, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, and the Rangers are usually represented pretty well. Philly and Washington are as well, albeit to a lesser extent. Basically all the locales where the transplants came from (i.e., places where no one wants to live :sarcasm:).

The point about locals checking out is also relevant. Usually we at least have the numbers to shout the visiting fans down, but half of our fans are done for the year, so it's becoming easier for the visitors to upstage us.

I would be one of those aforementioned Boston transplants that are down here, I just was more of a NCAA hockey fan when I was in the area then an NHL fan (guess you could say Whalers and Pens) and when they moved here I was sold.

But basically it comes down to a few things:

1 - Karmanos is a ****ing moron for wanting a game scheduled at the same time as the NCAA tournament. Or for wanting Sunday afternoon games AT ALL. We're literally NEVER a national broadcast, and much of our fanbase follows the Carolina Panthers and/or NCAA basketball. Most NFL games are in the early afternoon and the late-round Sunday NCAA Tourney games are always in the afternoon. That's some grade A stupidity on his part.

2 - There are a LOT of transplants down here, and when their teams are good they tend to show in droves. Quite literally the only ones that would show when they weren't were Pens fans (can't comment on the Wings, they've always been good since the team's been here). In the years that the B's and Rangers are mediocre there's still a few hundred B's fans here, but the ratio is more like 90-10 Canes fans. The years that they're good they start showing up. Bruins have been in a "good" cycle for a few years now.

3 - We're a ****** team and have been out of the playoff picture since October. I'm not exaggerating that, we went ****ing 0-for-October, we were done from the start. Our team has been ****** for at least 3 seasons now (I'd argue since 2009) and unlike some markets our fans won't show unless you can prove you can put at least a respectable product out there. The Canes failed to do that under Rutherford and he was forced out, and who knows how long it's going to be under Francis before we're back where we should be. So as a result our fans want the team to actually frigin show something before they come back, can you blame us?

Tonight of all nights especially with Duke's Elite 8 match-up. The Duke fans who live in the area (rather than going back home to New Jersey) were at home watching their Blue Devils and everybody else was at home casting all of their juju at their TVs in hope that Duke would be bounced out the way UNC and NC State were.

Fun fact - I know somebody who thought Duke was the University of North Carolina and that Clemson was the University of South Carolina.
