My understanding had been that shift play began earlier that year in the Western League, but maybe this is incorrect since this Mar 31 1925 article says Lester Patrick's Victoria Cougars used the same tactic to win the west before playing the Montreal Canadiens in Victoria and Vancouver BC.
Either way, this may be the West's final major contribution to modern ice hockey: the use of shift work as a method of attrition warfare that now translates to 45 second shifts.
