Looks like the SNTIC countered the Raiders offer with a request for more private investment.

I'm a Sharks fan from San Jose. But I love Las Vegas, and consider it my home away from home. I'm still currently living in San Jose. I don't know why people would think this would be a failure. I remember a post form a disgruntled Atlanta Thrashers fan that said "If it won't work in Atlanta, why would it work in Vegas." I think Vegas will be a very successful franchise and I'm looking forward to going to the first Sharks vs. Las Vegas game.

That comparison is as bad as "it won't work cause look at what happened to Phoenix"

I don't want to quote BB's post, but I think that was the lowball offer and it ends in the middle somewhere.

Honestly, I can't see the SNTIC agreeing to have public funding at much more than the $550mm that they put in their proposal. To get any kind of public funding for a stadium in Las Vegas is like building a snowman in hell, if the Raiders are able to get $550mm from the city it would be a major steal IMO.

A major steal, and pretty amazing. University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale has a tray of grass that moves out of the stadium, a roof, and is a Super Bowl level stadium. It would cost $534MM to build in 2016 dollars.

This place they're proposing must have gold plated cupholders at every seat. They could finance UoP Stadium with 100% public funding with the money they're offering now.

So I have to ask, being completely ignorant of the city...

Are there any issues with getting to and from the arena from the more affluent areas, as is often indicated is the problem with the Coyotes arena being in Glendale?

Vegas is a surprisingly dense city. (3rd most dense metro area over 1MM population in the US last I checked) so with that its not really hard to get most anywhere in town. Unless you're going from one extreme end of town to the other, you're not more than 45 minutes away from anything.

Luckily I live right about where Vegas meets Summerlin so I'm like right in the middle so nothing is more than 25 or so minutes away.

The stadium deals are insane here. It shouldn't cost Billions of dollars. It's taking advantage of a system that the private sector could finance on their own. If the public finances it, it should have to a realistic amount. All the way overy the top amenities should be financed privately. Then again, it's not my say. It just seems like amounts cities and statest are paying for these places are just so ridiculously absurd.

question for vegas locals

since expansion is now official, will there be any new facilities built to serve as the team's practice facility? i don't think the LV ice center or sobe arena are capable of serving as a practice rink

Smart ass answer: Google is your friend.

Legit answer: yes they're planning on building a practice facility similar (same) design as the Pens built. It'll house two sheets of ice with expansion to 2 extra sheets (4 total) at a "as need be" basis. West side of Vegas.

I'm literally 5 miles away from the barn. One of the best things about our city is the fact that even out in southern highlands or all the way out by the red rock casino it's never more than 35-40 minutes to get to the strip.

Levi's Stadium cost around 2 billion and that stadium isn't even enclosed

Hendertucky checking in!

For those who don't know, Henderson, NV is a suburb of Las Vegas and home to 300k and me. I work in broadcast TV and will follow the development of this franchise closely. Henderson is a 15 minute drive to T-Moblie and if I am not working the games, I'll attend regularly.

Is there a more late 90s/early 2000s band than Sister Hazel, or do I just feel that was because Pandora feels like they need to play Sister Hazel three times an our on the 90s, 2000s, and Today's Hits station?

I've been in the Vegas Valley 8 years and I've never heard Henderson referred to as Hendertucky until this year.

And I never see the comparison. The only part of Henderson I'd go to was around Green Valley Ranch (played water Polo there)

For me I can either drive all the way down Tropicana from Ft Apache or just take 215 and be there in like 15. With parking it would probably take me 25 minutes to be walking into TMA after leaving the house.

Takes longer to get to my girlfriend's house cause she lives all the way in North Las Vegas. Speaking of. We've been together like 6 years and she's kind of adopted the Ducks as her team but I'm willing to bet she'll be more into the Vegas team when all is said and done.
(And ..what exactly "happened" to us? 20 years and we're still here! :) You'll be fine up there, welcome! )
