...is because of his height. It's not sexy, and people are quick to criticize smaller players as soon as it looks like they are ineffective, almost always coming down to "he gets pushed around".

If you actually watched the playoffs last year without midget-hating goggles, you would know that Desharnais actually played quite well, and with a lot of heart. The small sample in the intra squad games have been promising. He's not Getzlaf, sure, but he meshes well with people on the team and he works hard every night. I don't know what more people can ask.

This place seldom makes sense for a hockey board. Get use to it.:)

DD was MIA offensively until late in the Boston series and late in the Rangers series. It wasn't just a matter of points, but also in terms of creating chances. Considering he's played and paid to produce, that constitutes a failure, regardless of his effort level during the playoffs.

Don't let the 8 points in 17 games fool you, he was much worse than that offensively until putting up points when the series was out of reach against NY.

After putting up 2 points in the first 2 games of the playoffs, he had three points in the next 12 consecutive games.

I think its more to do with his usage as our 1st line center, but his height certainly is another factor.

No it's because of his usage

If he was used as 3rd line center and PP specialist, I wouldn't say a word

First: They're diffrence between: Small players and The smallest center to ever step foot in the NHL in more than 2 decade.

Second: I don't see anybody hating Gallagher

Third: You couldn't have picked one of the many thread talking about DD?

Interesting conundrum.

Many of those who bash DD will fawn over Reway, Thomas, Andrighetto, Audette and the other undersized players/prospects for the Habs.

So it's not about size.

It's more about the "perceived" mistreatment of a person's favorite player. The reason for the irrational venom spewed toward DD is there are two very strong camps in this board. Galchenyuk and Eller.

Other tan that, thanks for starting the 100th DD thread that will be ugly shortly. Pun intended.

Well count me out of that group I have no great hopes for any of these guys.
If we can move them for a better mix (size speed skill we should) If Reway can be a Matts Naslund great but otherwise. :shakehead

DD has been exemplary in his quest to improve. Unfortunately there is nothing he can do about getting tossed around like a rag doll in the post season. It makes it so much easier for our opposition to shut us/first line down.

Oh and why do people not have the same dislike for Gallagher.. and why didn't they have the same dislike for Gionta ?

Oh..

The only reason so many people dislike Desharnais...

is because some people don't understand how the salary cap work. They expect Desharnais to produce 65 + points because he is being use as the 1st offense center but they don't take in consideration his cap hit of only 3.5 millions.

Desharnais is not small, Gallagher is small, DD is a midget.

Well Gio got his on this board for sure.

Gallagher has far fewer detractors because he has an ability to make those around him better.
I for one hate when they play him with smaller bodies but MT and I don't see eye to eye on a number of issues.

No no we do understand salary cap......but we also understand that no team wins the cup with a 50pts first line center.

DD + Moen + 1 millions of that free money equal 6.35M which would be enough to buy a top center? No? Just a math example

Nowhere near the same extent as DD.

While DD is just a free loader amirite?

Gallagher played with Patch too but he didn't benefit from that. Only DD did. :sarcasm:

There are no double standards at play here at all.
