I know lots of Canadian people were hopeful about the Oilers, but it was a 2v8 matchup in the finals and even though it went 7 we were pretty clearly the better team.

This Panthers team reminds me a lot of the 06 Canes. No matter how many games they win, no matter how dominant they are, they get very little credit. They've been "lucky" almost 19 games in a row now.

And I've been telling everyone I know for weeks that the Pats weren't going to the super bowl. Everyone thought I was insane but I'm not sure why people thought a team that couldn't beat the Eagles or the Dolphins was a lock for the Super Bowl. Their offensive line was complete trash.

This is the perfect example of the bias. Could you imagine if the Pats were 18-1? The media would debating whether or not Tom Brady was the greatest American ever born.

We were the favorite in that series for sure. But we weren't the clear-cut best team in hockey.

I see the 06 Canes being a lot more like the 04 Panthers that almost won the SB. Both teams had been pretty bad in the recent past, but had built up quickly and posted a "pretty good" season before making what a lot of people considered a surprise playoff run.

This Panthers team feels more like the '96 Detroit Red Wings. They're curb-stomping teams and most of the time they seem unstoppable. The question is whether they have it in them to close the deal. The '96 Wings didn't.

If the Panthers do win the big game the Hurricanes really need to do a "Panthers Night" for a game, have a player sound the siren and take pictures w/ fans and the lombardi trophy present. Of course the Canadian media will likely have a field day with it and see it as a "Hurricanes resort to desperate measures to get better attendance" but **** them.

I know in the past Steve Smith sounded the siren and I seem to recall Jerricho Cotchery did as well when he was with the Jets.

The duo of Ty Conklin and Jussi Markannen i still can't get over.

Didn't Markannen get hurt too? Who was the 4th goalie?

The Oilers had Dwayne Roloson, a TDL acquisition, as their 1st string. He got injured in game 1 of the series. Marc-Andre Bergeron, Carolina Hurricanes favorite, leveled Ladd right in front of the goalie. Ladd then barreled into Roly the goaly. Jussi Markannen and Ty Conklin were the backups, and they shared the rest of the series. Markannen played most games though.

Pretty neat site. You can also see Edmonton's Sergei Samsonov and Jaro Spacek trades that also occurred that season. Bout 2 weeks after they won the cup, Pronger was traded, and it was the end of an era.

Canada's just mad because none of their NFL teams even made the playoffs.

I was actually thinking the other day about how there is no intra-team interaction at all, be it Panthers, NC State, anything. Does the NHL have some policy against it?

They can't really take sides in the Triangle turf war. A Wolfpack Night would make some people happy for one evening, but then there would be others who would never forgive them.
