Name 1 thing about the Penguins hockey related that you can't understand....it can be anything.

My Mystery Question Of Life:

Why am I constantly reading posts about Brandon Sutter soon being a 5 million dollars a year player on his next contract!!!

Seriously, what (mod edit) would sign a player of his ilk for that insane a price.

Why is a certain *cough* player still playing for the Pens?

Does he possess an uncanny ability to avoid injuries and stick around even though he sucks ass?

Is he so infamously popular that he has had his own hot thread going on here for a while?

Now i wonder if you wonder who that mystery man could be?

Or not.

The mystery thread made by the rookie poster, how?

It's a mystery.

This is not about the overall view of the thread title or it's contents.

I actually like it.

I must admit I've missed the post about Sutter being worth 5 mil. That's almost as ridiculous as believing Scuderi and Adams are still passable NHLers.

I'll give this a try:

Why is it that our star captain that has already overcome so much and delivered a Stanley Cup, not to mention countless unforgettable moments not allowed to have ONE off season without this board losing its mind and wanting him gone?

Trying to rationalize GM's actions in UFA is a fools errand...

Hell, we signed Rob Scuderi at an insane price, despite him being a mediocre defensemen / PK specialist.

There would be some teams in the playoffs that would claim Adams if we cut him due to his PK ability.

Scuds would have a good trade market for him. When the other teams put out their best PP, Scuds is the 1st named called by the staff. On basically every penalty kill, before the face off, the 4 guys on the ice are talked to by Scuds. He is the captain of the PK. We have a pretty good PK unit.

I know it ain't glam for some, but to win, you need a top PK unit. Helps to win games.

What I don't understand is that most of these players are salivating at the idea of being on the same team as Sid (and Geno). When they are on the ice with 87 and/or 71, it's lke most of them are like "Oh Sid (or Geno) is on the ice. Let's just stand back and make Sid (or Geno) do it all".

So over it. Those two cannot do everything on their own FFS

Bandwagon fans. For all that Sid has done for this franchise, to see the total lack of respect sent his way is laughable. If anyone deserves a pass for a bad streak, it's him.

There were like 10 teams we beat to sign him and I think he took a discount to sign here. An elite PK D man who is brought in to help Maatta and Despres and DP for under 4 million is not that bad. There is what is seen on the ice and what is not seen. Scuds is about as professional a D man there is in the league. Been to many games and he is the most talked to player on the ice on the D end. He's a key reason that the development of Maatta and Despres is happening.

The lack of respect this dude is shown is a joke.

OK, I'll give it a go.

What is with the recent infatuation with guys like Tlusty and Bergenheim? Seems to me like that is trying to put a band-aid over a bullet wound! The Pens true problems can't be fixed by these guys, so why waste assets for them? Sometimes the best thing to do is to take a step back and really look deep at truly addressing the problem, not just throwing another "band-aid" on it and hoping in vain that this is the magical band-aid that will miraculously solve a bigger issue.

Exactly. If these 'big moves' included these guys it won't solve much.

Why do we park on driveways and drive on parkways?

I would like to know how much influence ownership actually has on who stays on the roster.

Because it's not one season. He was MIA in the Boston series. He also was MIA the entire playoffs last year.

I blame Sid for one thing. He should have been smart enough to ask management for two angry physical wings like Mario had with Stevens and Tocchet. Instead he wanted his BFF's. Maybe two nasty wings wouldn't prevent all of the crap he takes, but there would definitely be a reduction.

This is nonesense. All it takes is one person in management to remedy the situation. Sid's job isn't to build the team around him.

Why does it take a professional sports organization more than a decade to surround it's two Hall of Fame, generational talents at center with two legitimate wingers apiece?

This. So much THIS! We're still rolling with Kunitz and an overachieving Comeau right now. 10 years folks and this is what we're rolling with. AND this is after landing Perron this year. It's pathetic.

It's because of the cap, guys! They make too much! Gotta save somewhere!

They should be able to carry the load on their own, anyway! That's why they make the big bucks! Malkin did it that one playoffs and Crosby has carried around third liners for years so it should apply for every single season!

Gotta spend that money on important stuff like every single goddamned defenseman that's ever laced 'em up!

Hornqvist - Crosby - Perron ... 1/2 there, if they would but actually play that line from now on. That's a pretty solid line even if Crosby is injured and looks to pass all the time.

Edit: for pessimism
