There is no nice way to say this but I will try.
We forked over big for Andrej because at the time he was about as dynamic of a defenseman as we could ger our grubby hands on. But as soon as he got here it was very apparent very quickly that he was not the player we traded for. To our discovery, he was the beneficiary of one of the leagues best and deepest offenses, good and sometimes great goaltending and never being asked to play in the top pairings. He was even +30 something one year. An average at best player looked phenomenal.
He came here and was asked to be the man, a job he could not handle. He was lazy, slow, gave absolutely zero ****s about what he did unless he was on the bench, made terrible passes, couldn't run a PP andscored more goals for the other team than he did for us because whenever he successfully blocked a shot it would deflect the puck, change the angle and go into our net. He had a knack for simultaneously screening our goaltender in the process. His mediocrity was absolutely uncanny.
Needless to say he lost his spark and got lazy when we lined his pockets and never cared a day in his life in the Lightning sweater. It showed on the ice every night. He was never a bad player, but when he Alex Daigle'd it for 2 years the fact we got a 2nd rounder seemed like turning piss into wine. If you make him a 2nd pairing defenseman he will do fine. But when we brought him here to be the player we knew he could be he just mailed it in.
