Sergachev could turn out to be a real test for whether Murray really won't draft a Russian. If we are sitting 9 and Matthews, Laine, Puljujarvi, Tkachuk, Dubois, Chychrun, Juolevi and Nylander are gone. Sergachev sure looks a lot like what we need and want as a player. A dynamic offensively skilled player jumping into the fray with how we want to play? Seems perfect. Just one potential hiccup.

To those that have seen Serg more than me, question: how are his outlet passes. His Campbell style ability to carry the puck up the ice is nice and all, but I just don't know if it'll translate to the NHL at all. I'm much more hoping for a D that is 'offensive'' in that he can hit a long stretch pass under pressure to break out of the zone on the rush. Does he have that element of his game? Work in progress? Unknown because he so easily rushes himself?

In what I've seen, I have no issue with his ability to sling the puck up-ice. Is it his greatest strength? Probably not, but it's not something he struggles with. He is entertaining as hell though and I've said it before, he's fun to watch.

You should throw this info into a publicly visible google doc. Would be easier to update, easier to read, and all you'd have to do is repost the link/screen shot each day

I'm completely fine with staying at pick 7. I think Calgary/Winnipeg/Columbus are fine on D and suspect them to take forwards. I expect Toronto/Vancouver/Edmonton to focus on D, but be to close to the top picks to take one. I really like our spot right now in regards to possible snagging a top LH D barring any lottery implications.

Unless WPG wins top 3 they likely picking D. They have drafted Scheifele, Lowry, Ehlers, Petann, and Conner at forward since 2011, and acquire Armia (20121 1st) They drafted Morrissey on D. Given age of Enstrom, they likely use a pick to add defensive depth.

Calgary is a 50/50...they have used 2 high picks on Monahan and Bennett, they signed Gsudreau and they have Jankowski coming from college next year.Hamilton with last years 1st. They have drafted a few other Dman with 1sts or high 2nd the past few years.

Columbus likely going forward with their pick
Edmonton should go defense.
Vancouver should go offense
Toronto picking top 4 likely going offense, after that it's a coin flip.

Well, lottery aside, that's not a good spot, unless you really like Tkachuk, which I do.

I see Edmonton swapping with Cbus, and taking Chychurn. And I see Peg addressing it's shallow prospect pool on LHD with Juolevi. If Calgary takes Dubois, who is nearing consensus as the top forward in the 2nd tier, that leaves Tkachuk as the only really viable pick for the Sabres at 7. No way Murray goes Sergachev, and Bean and McAvoy play the wrong side. McLeod would be pretty redundant. Nylander would make for a fun rivalry with Toronto, but I don't think he's a fit with what the Sabres are building. I really like Gauthier, but he's a lottery ticket, and I see Murray being safe.

For better or for worse, if his is how the lottery were to play out, Buffalo will likely be drafting the bane of stat guys everywhere.

What?

If we're top 8 we get either of

Matthews- Franchise changing player
Laine- #1 Winger
Puljujärvi- #1 Winger
Tkachuk- #1/2 Winger
Chychrun- Top 2 D
Nylander- Top 6 Winger
Dubois- Top 6 Winger/Center
Juolevi- Top 2/3 D

I'm happy with any of these 8 picks, which is why we need to stay top 8. Sergachev is great, but the Russian factor is real, especially with Murray at helm. We fall pass 8 and then we have some issues on who to draft.

Good point, but they also have Buff who they just signed, Trouba who is looking for a long extension soon, Myers and Morrissey who should be joining the club soon. Their top 4 D look in place for quite sometime.

Calgary has Brodie, Hamilton, Giordano as the top 3 D. They could go either way.

I like Keller and Sergachev more than some of their forward/D counterparts. They fall back because of factors unrelated to their ability (Keller is 5'10 and Sergachev was born in the wrong country). Both have unreal talent.

All aboard the Juolevi Express! I want an all-Finnish top pair!

I'd make a guess if this is how the season ends Juolevi gets picked by Buffalo.
My money is on Calgary adding a forward at 6th, wanting to add size on the wings.

I think you missed the point of my post. Which is probably my fault. My point was 7th isn't great if you are looking for a lefty defenseman. I don't believe Chychrun or Juolevi will be there. For the record, I really like Tkachuk and think he is the perfect winger to round out the top 6. Smart, good on the boards, and doesn't need the puck on his stick to be effective. Ideal fit for Eichel or Reinhart's wing.

Just watched the last 5 minutes of the Habs game. Man, that was painful. They're bad. Bad bad.

But I digress, after much of the night looking as though we might gain on them, they actually separate from us by a point.

And toronto wins, which is hilarious

We are somehow going to acquire PK this offseason

Completely agree. Tkachuk IMO would really do well with Eichel and Reinhart. A griddy guy that can help along the boards with a playmaker in Reinhart and a sniper in Eichel.

If Montreal trades PK, Bergevin should be fired, drawn and quartered.

If they really want to go full rebuild, he would be able to get anything they wanted from Edmonton, except McJesus.

I could see them making a pitch for him. Yakupov to play with Gally, 2016 1st (Top 3-4), and Nurse might get the ball rolling.
