Dumbeor ****ing sucks. It will be the best feeling ever if Lou announces he won't be brought back in 10 days from now.

I can't get on board with this line of thinking. The whole "devil you know" thing just doesn't work as well in coaching. You've got a coach who doesn't have the personnel to play his system, however good it may or may not be. Can he be successful? Maybe. Will it be with what we have or will have next year? Doubtful. However not changing for fear of it getting worse isn't acceptable. We're in a tough spot as we either have to hope and pray that DeBoer can figure out how to manage the team he gets next year or hope that he is so terrible we wind up with a high draft pick. If I were a betting man, I'd take the latter. A new coach can serve us better IF we look for one that fits our organization and not just hire a flashy name. A lot of variables but I think Pete's time here is almost up.

I will literally take anyone else at this point. I say that knowing what that means. Lou could hire a baby giraffe to coach this team and, quite frankly, I welcome the change. Even if it means the damn players coach themselves while someone cleans up after the baby giraffe.

There comes a point where you just need a new outlook and a new direction. Has he had the most talented teams in the world? God no. Has he been unfairly criticized by fans and had far too much blame attributed to him? Yes. I'm guilty of that and recognize that as well.

But I still believe that he's largely responsible for our poor performance. I think a better coach utilizes his personnel a lot better (as limited as it may be) and a better coach adjusts better.

Watching 20 year olds succeed around the league makes me wonder why we can't find a coach whose willing to find a spot for the 3 kids and Boucher. I've watched all 4 play and I saw how well they did in spurts and even watched them make mistakes. I wish the coach would have made a concerted effort to help them grow and develop instead of deferring to veterans.

This wasn't a good night if you wanted Pete out

Tonight was maybe his third or fourth great escape of the year. It looked for all the world after the first period like this was IT. And if by some miracle we do make the playoffs Pete ain't going anywhere, even if we get swept by Boston.

The boos at the arena for him have been pretty steady since the break though...it'll take making the playoffs to get the crowd off his back it would seem.

The victory was No. 100 for DeBoer as Devils coach, tying him with Doug Carpenter for second place in team history. Jacques Lemaire is first with 276.

In my opinion:

1) Negative impact of shootout results,
2) Negative impact of roster quality

Will defend him as the coach and he may get an extension, even though Devils miss the playoffs. I'm OK with him as the coach and I think that he's least of our problems but I seem to be in minority here.

peteyball can be frustrating but the dude literally has a team of third liners and old guys and has them herping and derping around a playoff spot with a week to go. you're crazy if you think lou fires him.

I go back and forth with DeBoer as he is maddening at times but last night something did occur to me. You have a team loaded with talent like Edmonton, they are loaded but poorly managed in more than one respect. You have Washington which should be better than they are. You have Toronto which has more talent than their record should be and it does make me waffle on the DeBoer thing a bit. You could say that each of those teams has more talent personnel wise than we do and you'd be correct to varying degrees. They should be performing better and yet they are not. We have a very thin squad that is not overly deep or talented but yet here we are, 5 games left and still talking about the playoffs as a possibility.

Still, I can't help but think we will be better going forward with a new coach as Pete is just too hard on the young players and his handling of the goalie situation has easily cost this team 2-3 games if not more. If we come back as virtually the same squad next year, utilizing our limited youth depth as replacements for the departing then he has to go. If Lou brings in some quality replacements and moves the right guys, I'd be ok with Pete coming back on a short leash.

None of those teams have leaders like Jagr or Elias either.

I waffle on Pete too but honestly I give most of the credit for whatever positives we've done this season to Jagr's performance (and by extension his bringing Zajac back into the land of the living offensively).

<------ Wanted Deboer fired before it was cool & trendy.

haha I wanted him fired after the 2nd week of the season.

I think the leadership of Jagr and him being vocal to the media has pushed this team more than anything the coaches have done all season.

I think the players are motivating themselves and learning to be a team without the coaches - which is just wrong in itself but I'll take it at this point.

I still want PDB gone, and I still hope Lou overhauls this team after witnessing the bad show on ice this season.

Jagr is the DE FACTO "Coach" of this team now.

I'm sure they're listening to any X's and O's that Pete draws up but as far as from an emotional and LEADERSHIP standpoint, it's Jagr that's front-and-center.

BTW, do we still wait; then complain about whatever happens, Semak? :sarcasm:

There is no doubt who is driving the bus from a leadership point now. It's Jagr all the way. Just look at the way he talks with the media, you know he talks even moreso with the players. In particular, when he was having the players turnaround during the shootout loss to Buffalo. He's picked this team up and really shown what leadership we have been lacking. Elias is a great leader but strikes me as more of a quiet type, more diplomatic maybe. Jagr is blunt and just tells it like it is and that's what we need.

This should be the official slogan of the Devils board.

 Thanks. I'll ***** my finger and get my quill.

I really, really want to like PDB. I can overlook the whole over playing Gio/PH thing if I had a bit more confidence in his young player development. That's where I draw the line with him or the next coach.
