Olympics: the cycle game: nhl vs. the world...

i know that it is easy to dismiss the ice surface differential since so many of the participants play in north america, but the numbers over the last 4 winter olympics with nhl players participating don't lie...

for me the most glaring difference is the way the americans and especially the canadians battle along the boards and cycle the puck - vs. russia team canada's cycle game and determined play along the boards was dominant...

yet, in the last two times they (team usa & team canada) played the olympics in european cities with larger ice surfaces the end results were not the same as salt lake and vancouver...

my question is, with the larger ice surface does the defense not worry so much about cycling because of distance from the net, and vice-versa in north american arenas...
