Long Dark Blues
Who are your favorite British artists/bands to come out of the mid 60's? Here's a list to help out:
http://digitaldreamdoor.com/pages/best_artists-British-Invasion.html

My Favorites:

1. The Who
2. The Rolling Stones
3. The Beatles
4. The Kinks
5. The Moody Blues
6. The Animals
7. Them
8. The Yardbirds
9. The Hollies
10. The Zombies

Rank your favorites(however many you want). Share with us a great song from a lesser known artist/band or share a lesser known song from one of the legends.

This song didn't make the cut for The Who Sell Out album. I first heard it as a demo from Townshend's album Scoop and then later on the Who's Thirty Years of Maximum R&B album.

Please try to limit the number of YT embeds to just one. Just have multiple posts!

What do they call the British "Invasion" in England?

The Animals would be my #1 with Beatles a close 2nd

Frankly I have always found The Rolling Stones and The Who vastly overrated

Another good thing about Animals is it lead to Eric Burdon and War which had some good music as well

Eric Burdon was honestly the best singer of the British invasion IMO

Mid 60's is kind of a handicap on choices for me.

Fast forward to 1970 and throw Gentle Giant on the list. Early Prog band and a huge influence on Dream Theater

Over 50 years of longevity. No other band in history can say that. Selling out arena's. Maybe not your cup of tea, but can't call them overrated. I don't even like them much, but their achievements?

I see them like this:

1. The Beatles - 5.0 (God-like)
2. The Kinks - 4.5 (Brilliant)
3. The Rolling Stones - 4.0 (Perfect)
4. The Who - 3.5 (Great)
5. The Zombies - 3.5 (Great)
6. The Yardbirds - 3.0 (Very Good)
7. The Moody Blues - 1.5 (Neutral)
8. The Animals - 1.0 (Negative)

I've always felt that The Who were kind of lame in the studio and whenever they got too ambitious/hoity toity (the rock opera is a terrible idea, IMO). They're better live, ferocious, and unhinged.

I've always found this funny. Wouldn't rattling off a list of achievements/praising their reputation be an absolute prerequisite required for something to be considered overrated?

He can't deny the fact that they're highly rated, but that's kind of the point.

I'm going to be an odd one and say I don't like the lot of them. I liked the dancefloor singles of the early sixties and instead we got pub mugshakers at the end. That is a bit fat pass for me.

My top ten would be:

The Beatles

The Kinks
The Rolling Stones
The Who
(if we are talking just live shows, they go way up with me)
The Yardbirds
The Animals
Donovan
Spencer Davis Group

The Hollies
The Searchers
[/B] (not a lot of hits, but two or three great ones)
