Aho and Johnston scratched? There's a dirty joke there somewhere.

I think the mentality is Montreal is a soft team with little punch up front and they feel they can make their defense better by taking one of the softer smaller Dmen out of the lineup. I’m not sure the logic behind moving Johnson out unless they just feel he’s not needed against a less gritty team

I agree. Johnston should not be scratched. Also Hickey should be scratched over Aho.
Aho has been much worse than Hickey. Leddy has been the disaster. I am actually pretty happy how all of our Dmen have played over the last handful of games.

Aho I have no issue with, as he hasn't really outplayed anyone ahead of him, and Davidson is a steadier defensive player.

Johnston though, has more goals and points than Nelson over the last 7 games despite less ES time and none on the PP, and has been better without the puck. Nelson should be scratched over him. Fritz too. That said, Nelson and Fritz are more versatile players, so I can understand the decision, though I do not agree with it.

IMO, bottom 6 would be more effective if it were:

Ladd-Cizikas-Fritz/Nelson
Johnston-Wagner-Clutterbuck
