Truly the unsung hero of these boards.

Cheers to another thread, long live discussion of Vancouvers propsects
I always appreciate the likes and posts of appreciation. Thanks for making maintaining my stats threads a rewarding process.

Also, if Southern Canuck is out there somewhere reading this. I hope I'm doing you proud. I'm just continuing what you started.

I feel bad for kids who most likely won’t make it in the NHL.
Who knows how many kids are playing minor hockey around the world.....could it be half a million or more?

The hard reality is that only a tiny fraction of those kids will ever be drafted, and an even smaller percentage will even play in the AHL, ECHL or a pro league in Europe. And even tinier fraction ever make the NHL.

The Canucks draft seven players in most drafts.....and will probably only sign two or three. And as we've seen even a lot of those signees will never see an NHL game.

Jurmo could just be one of those Canuck draftees who never developed.....it happens to every NHL team and the Canucks are worse than most.

I’m late to the party aren’t I ?? Boy we are so spoiled right now .

Brzustewicz could turn out to be one of the biggest steals of the draft . He’s on top form

Best U20 P/G by OHL defencemen since 1999/2000, for reference.
A little bit more context on the numbers: Hunter is a Nov birthday, so he would have been one of the older players in last year's draft. He is still 18, but that is why this chart is showing it as his age 19 season. That said, Brandt Clarke is a February birth so his D+2 year (last year) where he put up almost 2 PPG is probably the best comparison we have for what Hunter is doing this year.

If you take the OHL NHL as about 0.29 (a commonly used value), putting up 2 PPG is the equivalent of 48/82 in the NHL, which is absurdly good for a 18 year old defenceman.

If we were to plug in a 48 for the D+1, Dougie Hamilton is the closest statistical match (although a poor size and age relative to draft year match) per Byron Bader's model. If Hunter slows down a bit to about 1.5 PPG over the whole season that would be about the 35 equivalency shown for Hamilton and would still represent a very strong season. Hamilton was has a higher probability to be an NHL player given that he was young for his draft year and huge, so keep that caveat in mind.

Looking at Clarke, but offset by a year, or maybe Travis Dermott as a good size/age-to-draft-year, but lower scoring comparable is also reasonable.

Also... Zayne Parekh with the Ryan Ellis like start to his draft year. Will be interesting to see if he can keep it up.
