Reilly Smith - what's his potential? Who could he compare to if he realizes his potential? Same goes for Chiasson. Thanks

I see this was moved. Sorry about that.

No prob. Just generally like to keep the talk about the Texas prospects in here.

Trying to think of some good comps but it's late. Both guys have top 6 potential. Chiasson more of a passer, Smith more of a shooter.

Havlat came to mind for Chiasson, but on second thought, that isn't a very good one.

T.J. Oshie (but with size) seems like a decent comparable, and along those lines of production is what I might expect as well.

Not sure about Smith though. Vanek scores too much and is more of a crease crasher, and there really aren't many guys who have that kind of offensive talent (seems like a lot of his goals are fancy moves or wicked snipes) while being defensively responsible too. Roy is probably the best I can come up with, kind of a jack of all trades player, but I still don't like that.

OK, I gave this some more thought and I think have a pretty good one for R. Smith -- David Perron.

Neither winger is particularly big or overpowering... both have an arsenal of 1v1 moves and handle the puck with ease... both are known for their forechecking ability that can lead to turning over pucks... both have an powerful shot and deadly release... and in turn they both look to shoot first rather than pass.

Frozen Failure

They got business in my hockey, and I hate it.

Yeah, I'd say that's fair.

Thanks a lot for the info. I've been getting pretty high on R. Smith the way he has been playing for Texas lately. I really hope he continues to progress.

That's probably the best comparison you could've made. They really do have pretty similar games.

I think I heard that the Aeros signed a couple of those career AHL type ringers now that the top prospects on the Wild are unavailable to them, should be a good test for the Texas Stars minus their top guys.

Yeah they signed Paul Mara, who I guess is out of the NHL now.

Russo indicated he's a likely candidate to fill in in the NHL with all the injuries on D. Since he was willing to take the PTO, this gives him a few games in the AHL to get ready for a potential NHL call up.

I don't think he can do that. Mara signed with Houston on a standard AHL contract, not a PTO deal like we had with Barker btw. So far as I know he has to actually sign a contract with the Minnesota Wild before he can fill in, and they are right up at the salary cap limit and the conrtract limit aren't they?

**Although really you can assume that Mara is going in to this looking to leverage a good performance in the AHL into another chance at the NHL. He's not limited to just signing with Minnesota though.

Russo mentioned that they'd have to move a player to sign Mara, and a regular AHL contract doesn't prevent you from signing an NHL contract. That's great though that he was willing to sign for the rest of the year. Guess he's committed to getting back in the NHL even if has to play the rest of the year in the AHL.

I honestly think he's just a backup option. Russo has been saying they are looking via the trade market. Hopefully for his sake, if it doesn't work out in Minnesota, he does enough in Houston to earn an NHL job or at least two-way contract over the summer.

Everyone is playing tonight.

Vincour starting and reunited with Eakin and R. Smith.

Hope you're sitting down. A. Smith is a scratch. :sarcasm:

Stars drop Alex Chiasson from top line and replace with Vincour. Wonder if it has to do with dozens of DAL scouts in building. #txstars

Time to show off.

This feed tonight is a total joke.

The one thing I've actually seen today is one of the bigger mistakes I've seen Oleksiak make this year. Serves as a reminder that patience and more time in the minors just might make the most sense.

He was handling the puck on the blue line, and he got undressed by Zucker. The mishap led to a breakaway attempt by Zucker, but Nilstorp made a stunning save.

Right now ... I'm watching nothing. No sound earlier. Lost everything for a while. Worked for a bit. Back to nothing.

This is not fun.

Nilstorp is down and injured.

Zucker on a semi-breakaway runs him. All the contact was with Nilstorp's head. Could be a whiplash effect.
