That's a fine segue to muse if there is a forward that could be converted to D, ala Burns or Buff. We need to draft an unheralded forward whose last name starts with a 'B'.

DeKeyser shouldn't be untouchable. He probably is. But he shouldn't be.

Tough to improve much when you pick up a #1 defenseman but have to deal the guy who would be your #2 or #3 defenseman. It would be an improvement, but by how much?

I feel like a lot of people are overrating guys like Shattenkirk, Barrie, Vatanen etc. because they put up points. They're not really #1 d-men, giving up Danny D to acquire one of them makes very little sense. It would change the dynamic of our defense a bit, but we'd be stuck with much the same problem we currently have with no legit top pairing.

You've got a guy that excels at the defensive part of the game (and underrated on offense), seems content, might take a hometown discount, and fits in very well on roster. That **** is stable. Don't fix what ain't broke.

Ducks fans seem very receptive to the idea of Tatar + Jurco/Pulkkinen for Fowler. Personally, I think that's incredible value for us and if that's actually possible Holland needs to get up on it.

Danny is probably the one player that looks like alegit top 4 into the future so yeah Holland better handle him with care and if he does trade him it needs to be for a better defense-man coming back. Franchise level. Anyway I think trading Danny would be a big slap in his face after the way he was signed. I don't think Holland has the hard core business side to offend players. The only players he offends are the ones he buries in the minors but once they hit the team they are pretty much here for life. I would say the chances he gets traded are slim to none and that a Abby like contract extension is coming.

Yeah two or three months ago they wanted 16OA+Tatar for Fowler. I guess another playoff loss really liked his value for them. Regardless if that's how the GM feels we would be so dumb not to do Tatar+Jurco/Pulkkinen for Fowler.

I think that most of us can agree on here that the defense is the weakest link of this team, and the biggest priority that needs to be fixed.

So I get confused when I go to the draft thread and see most people advocating for taking a forward over a defenseman.

Also see a lot of people deterring from solid UFA Jason Demers.

So if we aren't drafting defenseman, and not signing free agents, someone tell me how we are going to fix this defense...

Or are we waiting for another Ryan Suter to hit free agency? Or trading a pile of scraps for a legitimate #1 defenseman?

I would say we look to trade for shattenkirk and go for someone like Bean in the draft.. would be nice to trade up for one of the top 3 d in the draft but probably too expensive. Maybe sign yandle in free agency.. If we buyout ericcson and get rid of howard/datsyuks contract go for stamkos too.

I wonder if Blues would be interested getting Kronwall + forward for Shattenkirk?

Shatty's next deal is gonna go out from their cap, but Kronwall could give them good 2nd pair guy with great experience.

No one in the league is touching Kronwall and his ~$5 million/year cap hit for free....let alone trading a good player for it.
