Forwards
Joe Sakic, A: The hero from Salt Lake City was back at it, flying all over the ice, setting up his linemates with crisp, tape-to-tape passes, and scoring the game-winner.
Mario Lemieux, A: Dangerous on the power play, but more importantly, sent a strong message when he dropped the gloves and went after Steve Konowalchuk after the U.S. forward ran goalie Martin Brodeur.
Martin St. Louis, A: One goal, one assist, and by far his most impressive performance since camp opened. This is why he won the Hart Trophy.
Joe Thornton, A: Big Joe has arrived. After a so-so training camp, Thornton was dominating Tuesday night, using his size and strength around the net to create chances, and setting up St. Louis' goal.
Ryan Smyth, B-plus: The usual grit and determination, digging the puck in the American zone and creating space for his linemates.
Shane Doan, B-plus: Another physical night for Doan, who cranked a few American defencemen into the boards while logging minutes on power play and penalty killing.
Brad Richards, B-plus: Used his speed and vision, a threat in the American zone all game long.
Vincent Lecavalier, B-plus: Led Canada with six shots on goal through 40 minutes, and played solid defence in his own zone.
Jarome Iginla, B-plus: Missed on a pair of glorious scoring chances in the first period but threatened throughout. Once again looks good on Sakic's right side.
Dany Heatley, B: Had his chances but couldn't finish. Finished his checks with authority.
Brenden Morrow, B: This level looks a little too fast for him but he was solid on the penalty kill.
Simon Gagne, B: Got back defensively so linemates St. Louis and Richards could press offensively.

Defense
Scott Niedermayer, A: Brilliant with the puck, spear-headed transition game, and uncharacteristically dropped the gloves with Jeff Halpern, showing heart and leadership.
Adam Foote, A: Hammered every American forward in sight, logged more minutes after Canada went down to five blue-liners.
Eric Brewer, B-plus: Threw his weight around effectively and passed the puck smartly out of his zone.
Wade Redden, B-plus: Looked poised in his own zone and effective on the power play.
Robyn Regehr, B: Good physical play in front of the net but took two needless holding penalties.
Ed Jovanovski, B: Already had three shots on goals before leaving with an undisclosed injury late in the first period.
-
Goalie
Martin Brodeur, A: Picked up where he left off from Salt Lake City, making a sensational glove save on Keith Tkachuk in the second period and refusing to let the U.S. tie the game.
my take: overall a good game. good on eric brewer for having a solid game. he threw his weight around a lot.
