Bourgault.

6'0" RH center

Nice numbers in his D-1 year (33+38=71 in 63 games)
Paced 43+43=86 (per 63 games) this year

Hope that Sameskevich or Pastujov are still around for the next one.

Raty, I don't think he'll last too much longer. Could be a Frk/Esposito prospect though and scouts have him pegged as a potential 1st round bust.

Fair, but that's a drop from being a top selection a year or so ago.

Yeah, he may not turn out to be the elite player that some felt he would a few years ago, but I still think he's worth taking a shot on. Especially considering we have 2 firsts.

My thoughts exactly. He's worth a gamble with two first round picks.

This is where I’m at. He’s shown pretty well in international stuff (U18, U20).

Was between Raty and Bourgault for me. Bourgault is the safer play which is why I went for him, but with a pick 4 spots later you probably take the risk on Raty. Lot of guys will still be available at 25 that I’d be okay with.

Bourgault. Take a flyer with the second first if Raty is still there, and IF we still own the pick. I'm assuming it will be gone as part of a trade.

Went with Raty because he is a C, has decent size, and most of the tools. Not sure about his makeup, and not being picked for the junior team is worrying. Sounds like he wasn't playing much on his Liiga team, and would've been better off playing at a lower level and getting TOI.

Raty has been heading the wrong way for a couple years now. I'm staying far away from him.

What's the history of top-of-the-draft guys majorly falling during the year? Off the top of my head, I can think of Esposito, Ebert, Chychrun and maybe Fowler? Or was Fowler just a draft day slide?

Fowler was pretty much just a draft day slide. So was Chychrun to an extent.

I thought Chychrun fell more during the year, but I can't quite remember. Something like top 3 down to 10-15 pre-draft and then slid to the late teens during.

It's not like Raty's stock has fallen enough that the rankings have him outside of the 1st round. Most rankings have him going somewhere between #10-#20. Just because he's not looked at as a sure fire 1C, doesn't mean he couldn't be viewed as a decent 2C.

Chychrun fell from top 3 to top 10 during the year, and then from top 10 to 16 on draft day.

Chychrun fell from top 3 to top 10 during the year, and then from top 10 to 16 on draft day.

So not as pronounced as Raty's.

I know there comes a point where it's probably a good idea to take a flyer on a guy that was once thought to be a candidate for #1, but I'm not sure it's this early. That's why I'm trying to think of other cases of it happening.

I remember the Ebert thing being pretty crazy. Went from top 5 pick pre-season to Mr. Irrelevant on draft day.

I'm not really concerned with rankings. He's developing backwards. His offense is taking steps back as he gets older. He's never even been a prolific scoring threat, either at the league level in Finland or the international level. By comparison, Anton Lundell is considered a guy who could be a 2nd line center, but definitely not a true 1C. His scoring numbers make Raty look like a bottom six guy. He's purely riding his own hype from three plus years ago at this point. For whatever tools Raty apparently has, he doesn't know how to use them against better competition.
