Bob McKenzie's list has Cossa at #14. I think he'll slide past there though. Taking a look at the teams starting at #8 to see who might be interested in a goalie in the 1st round:
LA - they could take Wallstedt because they're lacking a good goalie prospect, but they have Cal Petersen who's 26 and just put up a .911 sv% over 35 games.
Vancouver - They've got Thatcher Demko who's 25, and 22 year old Michael DiPietro. I don't see them using a 1st on a goalie.
Ottawa - They have Filip Gustavsson and Mads Soggard so using a 1st on a goalie seems highly unlikely.
Chicago - They have Kevin Lankinen who's 26, and just drafted Drew Commesso in the 2nd round last year. They could take a goalie but don't need to.
Calgary - They just signed Markstrom to a long term deal and Dustin Wolf just had a solid season in Everett. Optics-wise, drafting a goalie in the 1st would not be good for Calgary and the fan base would freak out....more.
Philadelphia - They have 22 year old Carter Hart. Hmmm, what's the best way to undermine a young goalie's confidence after a tough season? Draft a goalie in the 1st round. So yeah Philadelphia won't....ahh who am I kidding, it's Philadelphia and goaltending, they'll do something stupid.
Dallas - 22 year old Jake Oettinger says hi. Jim Nill drafting a goalie in the 1st would be a surprise.
NY Rangers - They've got Shesterkin and Georgiev (for now) as well as drafting Dylan Garand last year. A 1st on a goalie seems unlikely.
Winnipeg - They've got 28 year old Hellebuyck signed for 3 more years, and Arvid Holm and Mikhail Berdin are decent but not great goalie prospects. The Jets could take a goalie.
Nashville - 26 year old Juuse Saros is an RFA, and they just drafted Jaroslav Askarov at #11 last year, so....
Ottawa and Nashville aren't drafting a goalie in the 1st given their good young goalies. LA is looking to contend quickly before their core gets too old so drafting a forward seems more likely. Dallas, Philly, Vancouver, Chicago and the Rangers have younger starters and teams that would benefit from productive entry level contract forwards. Calgary drafting a goalie would piss the fan base off and Treliving is trying to keep his job so given Markstrom was just signed that's not going to happen.
Winnipeg would seem to maybe be the team most likely to take a goalie based on need, followed by LA. That said though, if a team is just going off BPA then any of those teams could take Wallstedt or Cossa so there's a pretty decent chance Cossa is gone by the Oilers pick.
The other possibility is a team trading up or trading back to take a goalie. First off here are the goalie situations of the teams behind the Oilers:
Boston - 34 year old Tuuka Rask, with Jeremy Swayman and Daniel Vladar. No need to draft a goalie.
Minnesota - 33 year old Cam Talbot, with Kaapo Kahkonen and Dereck Baribeau. Could draft a goalie.
Detroit - 35 year old Thomas Greiss, with Keith Petruzelli, Carter Gylander and Jan Bednar. Some good goalie depth but nothing proven at the pro level. They could trade up for a goalie.
Florida - Bobrovsky and Spencer Knight, with Devon Levi taken last year. Yeah no need to trade up for a goalie.
Columbus - With Elvis Merzlikins and Matiss Kivlenieks the Jackets have the market cornered on Latvian goalies. Doubtful they'd trade up for a non-Latvian goalie.
Carolina - 25 year old Alex Nedeljkovic, with Jack Lafontaine at U of Minnesota. No need to trade up for a goalie.
Colorado - Thin AF at goalie - They could use a franchise goalie but they're lacking in currency (draft picks) to move up outside of using next year's 1st rounder.
New Jersey - 24 year old Mackenzie Blackwood, with Nico Daws. The Devils could take a goalie, doubt they trade up.
Vegas - Fleury and Lehner, with Logan Thompson impressing on the farm. Not trading up for a goalie.
Montreal - 33 year old Carey Price, with Cayden Primeau. Montreal could use a replacement for Price.
Then it's back to the top of the order in the 2nd round:
Buffalo - Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, with Erik Portillo in college. With Luukkonen the Sabres have more important things to worry about than trading up for another goalie.
Anaheim - Gibson and Stolarz, with Lukas Dostal in SanDiego. No need to trade up for a goalie.
Seattle - They could try to make a splash and trade up but it would be surprising for Francis to do so for a goalie in the Kraken's first draft.
Arizona - Kuemper and Adin Hill, with not great goaltending depth. Could trade up for a goalie but would potentially need to use next year's 1st.
So it's possible Minnesota or Detroit could trade up to take a goalie. Columbus, Colorado, New Jersey, Montreal or Arizona could as well but it's less likely. I would think Minnesota is more interested in immediate help if they're trading draft picks though, and Detroit is likely to go sign a UFA goalie and continue to stock the cupboards on defence and at forward given they have some promising goalie prospects, rather than trade up and take a goalie in the 1st round.
