Let's see which team's fans can assemble the best team for one playoff run. All the players are thrown into a 20-round dispersal draft (12F, 6D, 2G). The draft order was randomly generated and this is not a fantasy-based draft for points.

This is for a single playoff run. You aren't building a franchise.

Nathan MacKinnon. He's on an ELC, and we can actually afford to build around him with other players.

We can't give one player ten million dollars a year.

EDIT: nevermind. I failed to properly read the OP.

Ummm...Malkin.

One playoff run makes it Malkin for me.

That's the way I see it. For what it's worth, I'd have taken him over Toews, too. It'd be Crosby, then Malkin. I hate both, however. If I had to choose one I actually like and could root for it'd be Stamkos.

EDIT: Weber is pretty tempting. He's on the ice more, too. Still, I don't think anyone in the world can influence the outcome of a game more than Crosby and Malkin.

Yeah...I think the Oilers screwed up.

Stamkos for sure at #2, Malkin would be #3 for me

Now back to Toews, everyone always talks about his leadership and all that. Well, Kane is the better player.

Toews at two is
Didn't even notice that.

When I look at Weber as the best D in the league, I see the drop from him and his peers as much lesser than the one from the top centers. It's much easier to grab a #1 like Pietrangelo, Hedman, or OEL later and plug them in Webers place than it is to stick say an aging Datsyuk or Krejci in for Crosby/Malkin/Stamkos.

Once Weber, Doughty, Keith, Subban, and Karlsson are off the board the people drafting will get excited by a solid but not as impactful ppg type winger/center. Then you could bag a great value pick on D in the second round. OEL is HF's favorite OMG SO OVERRATED player these days so I'm almost positive he'll be available.

Reading......it's fundamental.

Gotta give Doughty some consideration here.

In a related story, justin williams went first overall in the playoffs game 7 version of this game.

Took Weber, had to go with a dman cause I just can't see a dman left at 58 that I'd be comfortable being the cornerstone of the defense. I'd rather overcome a weaker offense than defense. Thought about Keith and Doughty as well.

If we were adding to our current group, Stamkos would be a no-brainer. He creates his own offense.

But we are drafting a whole new team. The two best hockey players in the world are Crosby and Malkin. Crosby is off the board. Age and salary don't matter.

I'm shocked the votes are 16-2 Stamkos over Malkin. I expected 16-2 Malkin to Stamkos.

Wasn't an easy pick by any means. For me, Giroux, Kopitar, and Getzlaf were certainly in the mix as well.
