I took JT as he was by far the best prospect and he is 5 years younger than Bergeron.

I'm pretty sure the next 5 years JT will be better than Bergeron in his last 5.

Tavares but it's kinda close.
I mean would you take an equally great player defensively and better offensively over Crosby? Cause if Bergeron is winning this poll hard someone like Zetterberg should, logically, win a poll vs Crosby.

Knowing what we know as in they have the same level careers? Or things might change? With Bergeron, I do wonder if he becomes the defensive player he did without the injuries changing his game and having a coach like Julien etc, whereas I think Tavares becomes at least as good regardless. If it's just getting them for their careers then easily Bergeron

I say Bergeron.

1) Bergeron generally will outplay the other teams #1C.
2) He will do so at a lower cap hit than other top C because he doesn’t have sexy numbers.

Against an average team Tavares is going to be more impactful. But I am trying to win in the playoffs. I want to at least break even, and usually win the battle against the other teams best C and Bergeron is more likely to do that than J.T.

Why? Bergeron's best years were his last 5

Bergeron's line right now is 991-303-469-772 right now at age 33
JT is at 712-301-370-679 at age 28

I think that what JT will accomplish in the next 5 years will be more valuable than what Bergon has done to date and I love Bergeron.

Read the freaking title. :ha:

I did but we are also using everything we know, which in the case of Bergeron is an extra 5 years, right?

Kind of makes it an unfair comp if taken literally.

We can reasonably assume that JT will be much further ahead when he is the same age.

Plus Tavares was by far the better prospect for a reason.

I still voted Bergeron but agree with this post. If it's their careers to date it's hard to argue Tavares has been better but his future is a bright one here in Toronto. Although if we go by Hart voting which so many love to do here Tavares has 2 seasons already better than any from Bergeron, but I'm not sure I agree with that.

They’re PPG over the past two seasons is pretty close. Tavares has been healthier, but his production hasn’t dwarfed Bergeron’s or anything close to that.

Bergeron has also been playing with Marchand and Pastrnak, while Tavares was making Josh Bailey look like and elite nhl player.

Bergeron, i prefer a #1C who can at least score 70+ pts while also shutting down other teams top C

12 seasons ago...and only 2x ever
We could do 80 pts....oh wait...
You can do 80 pts all you want, it really doesnt make tavares a better player. Bergeron is the better player and it looks like im not the only one thinking that way too.. look at the poll result lol.

Can't really use current numbers when comparing 18 year old Bergy vs. 18 year old Tavares. Bergy lost a year to the lockout and year (plus) to a severe concussion. If he had been productive those years at the pace he was producing at the time (2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons) he'd have close to 1000 points at this point (two 70 point seasons, plus another 20-30 points the season after the concussion -- 772 + 170 = 942).

Then factor Julien coming in 2007 and an strong emphasis on the defensive game. It put a slight damper on Bergy's point totals, while improving his two-way game. What we see today (for both players) is product of the teams they developed on (Bruins and Islanders).

If, in some magical world, Bergy and Tavares were drafted the same year, I'd think Bergy would be drafted over Tavares, but they're both very good players.
