Assuming we have to finish at least 27th, or fourth from the bottom, to even have a remote hope of moving up to No. 1 overall in the lottery?

Unfortunately where we are 7th worst... We get a 6.5 percent chance at first overall .. 4th worst only improves to 9.5 precent

First overall would, obviously, be great, but yes, the odds will be long. If one wants to have grounds for optimism, cheeingr for a top three pick is the thing: better odds of success and still a great prospect to be had, judging by what the experts say.

Bottom 5 after tonight

we have some important games in hand we need to lose.. TOnight is a must win.. San Jose will be playing hard because they still want the division title. LA is going to play really hard after a loss to Anaheim tonight... Everything will be perfect!

Wow!...just goes to show how badly you have to suck to increase your odds of securing the first overall pick....there's just no way we're out-tanking the Leafs, but still hope for the Alberta teams....but you're probably right, we're stuck in 8-9 hole for the draft.

Yep. Top 5 would ease the sting. Although we still have to worry about the buffoons in charge of the pick.

Fall to 10th and it is 3.5%. 9.5% is nearly 50% better chance then 6.5%, so still solid given 1st is only 20% and you have more chance of a good pick.

"With the 5th overall pick, the Canucks are proud to select, from the Western Hockey League, Jake Bean."

Ha, no doubt. Or Bettman walks up to the mic... "We have trade to announce, The Vancouver Canucks trade their 5th pick and defenceman Jordan Subban to Ottawa for defenceman Dion Phaneuf and a 7th rnd pick in next year's draft"

Just need to do our part and lose our games in regulation, and have the kids score in a losing cause.

Thing that's encouraging is how even the teams around us are way up in the wins column....assume wins are the tie-breaker for even lottery teams....fact is this team has one of lowest win totals in the entire NHL, which should be the determiner for draft position, not how many 'loser points' you've been able to collect.
