Not really, he's a player. I prefer just keeping him, he's probably our most consistent and most reliable D-man. He is a little slower this year, but really good IQ and the guy just calms everything down in our own zone.

If Toronto gives him to Montreal, Montreal can then trade him as a rental at 50% and get something for him. Toronto frees up 5M to get a better player (possibly with term). Toronto won't give him for free without having use for the caproom all ligned up, but Montreal could take him and move him at 50% when some team got injuries.

Montreal can do that with a lot of different teams for a plethora of overpaid players. They can do that with their own players. They don't have to waste their retention spot and do TO a favor.

They can’t trade Brodie right now. Not without a replacement coming, and how much better would that replacement be?
