Thought it might be fun to have a thread for predictions of things to happen this offseason. You have to fill out at least one thing under each heading.

Trades:

UFA Signings:

Contracts of Matthews/Marner/Nylander (Term & AAV):

2018 1st Rd. Draft Choice:

2018 2nd Rd. Draft Choice:

Management Hires:

My Predictions:

Trades:

To ARZ
Jake Gardiner (signed/extended)
Connor Carrick
Josh Leivo
2018 25th Overall
2019 2nd rd. Pick

To TOR
2018 5th Overall (Hopefully Draft Noah Dobson)
Niklas Hjalmarsson

and could also see something like...

To FLA
Connor Brown

To TOR
Mark Pysyk

UFA Signings:

John Tavares $10 million x 7 years

Contracts of Matthews/Marner/Nylander (Term & AAV):

Matthews: $11 million x 8 years
Marner: $7.5 million x 8 years
Nylander: $6.5 million x 7 years

2018 1st Rd. Draft Choice:

If we stay at 25th OA K'Andre Miller (would like Mattias Samuelsson but don't think we will pick him)

2018 2nd Rd. Draft Choice:

Jake Wise or Nils Lundkvist

Management Hires:

Ron Francis

I would die of happiness if that Arizona trade went through and we got Dobson out of it.

My predictions

Trades:
Negotiating rights to Van Riemsdyk for 2019 3rd - New Jersey.
Connor Carrick for 2018 3rd - Arizona
Sparks for 2019 3rd - STL after training camp. I think we go with the veteran McBackup and give Sparks a chance to shine somewhere else.

Blockbuster:

TOR:
Gardiner
Leivo
2019 2nd

EDM:
10th overall
Matt Benning

UFA Signings:

Joe Thornton 1y - $6m
Mike Green 2y - $5m per

Contracts of Matthews/Marner/Nylander (Term & AAV):

Matthews 8y - $10.5m per. He is named captain.
Nylander 7y - $6.5m per.
Marner doesn't sign.

2018 1st Rd. Draft Choice:

Martin Kaut @ 25th

2018 2nd Rd. Draft Choice:

Calen Addison @ 52nd

Management Hires:

Smitty Werbenjagermanjensen - I have no idea

Roster for Opening Night

Hyman - Matthews - Nylander
Marleau - Kadri - Marner
Johnsson - Thornton - Grundstrom
Brown - Lindholm - Kapanen
Aaltonen

Johnsson steals Hyman's job in November. Nylander plays C and Kappy slots onto his wing in the event of injuries. Thornton gets to play with some talented young Swedes who go hard to the net and can convert on his passes.

Rielly - Hainsey
Dermott - Green
Borgman - Zaitsev
Benning

Hainsey starts the year with Rielly. Zaitsev finds his mojo after 2.5 years of Baptism by Babcock Fire (Babtism?) and steals the top pairing spot halfway through December when Hainsey gets tired. We also see some games where Borgman comes out and Hainsey plays on the left side with Benning.

Andersen
McBackup

Move Kadri and Gardiner to Arizona for either some package of picks and prospects assuming they want to improve on their 2018 finish.

Let Bozak and JVR walk to free up cap space.

Sign Tavares to replace Kadri and a veteran defenseman or two from the UFA market.

Sign Nylander to a 5 year deal.

You can still improve the team without trading Kadri or Gardiner

K'Andre Miller intrigues me at 25 but I don't think he'd be there.

Ron Francis hired.

Gardiner traded to Carolina.

Maybe we could see if we could pry Chychrun loose in the Kadri/Gardiner deal, then go sign some defensemen to fill the gaps.
Chychrun is much worse than Gardiner. Maybe he'll close the gap, but our defense isn't good enough to make a gamble like that

My bold, and unlikely prediction is the Leafs won't be picking in the first this year. Pick might be packaged as a trade-down, or used as the centerpiece of a trade for Severson/Myers/Hammer around the draft.

I like how there is a legitimate chance that the Marlies D core remains the same for next season. Only possibility I see is Marincin (and maybe Holl, but not as likely) walk or request a trade in favour of NHL opportunities. As we stand, all 6 starters should return.

I predict a big, big trade to get defensive help. I also think we could re-sign Bozak. I see us adding a goalie, in some form, that has the potential to challenge for the number 1 job... we don't have that now and we need it if Andy doesn't take the next step. I also predict we have NO Captain heading into next year. I see one more front office add, a former player, rink rat type.

Holy information overload Batman. Well done. Will be interesting to see how many things pan out with your very detailed predictions.

I was thinking/hoping they trade Gardiner for a completely opposite type of defender. That's about as detailed as I get for now. Lol.

Thanks! Really it's mostly just pick trading, moving some good depth pieces who need opportunities elsewhere, and trading Gardiner. Well we'll see if the Mascherin thing happens today. It is the last 6 hours for it to happen.

I like the draft haul the best. We will not have any defensive or center depth issues after that draft.
