Let's play a game to kill some time.

Here are two things... Try to guess what they are. I will answer some questions to give hints.

(A)
I am a person at a particular point in my career
0.9116 defines me at this point

(B)
I am not a person, I am a threshold or an average
0.9150 defines me at this point

1) Are both of these numbers save percentages?

2) Is B) linked to A)? In other words, is A) hoping to achieve the threshold established in B)?

Minimum acceptable SV% for an avg NHL starter?

A is an enigma to me.. Josh Harding's SV% was 0.911 this year but 9116 would round to 912 anyways... :dunno:

annd apparently I was looking at playoffs, so... is B Daniel Taylor? He played 2 games and I have no idea who he is but his SV% was 0.912 so I guess I'll go with that

(also, does anyone know how to do the head-scratching emoticon? i swear it exists)

e:thank you shakey

1) yes
2) only in the sense that I'm trying to make a point hahah
let's say A never made threshold B

My mind, it is spinning.
hehe wastes some time

Is it my blood-alcohol level? :sarcasm:

Damn you for making me use my brain during the summer! :)

lol I wish JK that kill

B does something to do with both AHL and NHL...

and no A is not Josh Harding haha or here's a hint... not to do with this season

Ok, time for a wild shot in the dark:

A) Pavelec's career ES save percentage?

B) The league average ES save percentage from 2008-13?

Am I close?

B does something to do with both AHL and NHL...

The SV% threshold an AHL goalie must surpass / hit before making the NHL, on average?

may or may not be grasping at straws here

edit: wait, sully's post gave me an idea and I'm too lazy to calculate but judging from this it seems plausible AND its the opposite of what I was originally going to guess - is that pav's career sv%, but just in the AHL?

This is ridiculously close I don't know if it's right and worded wrong, or just really close.

Haha, well I have a feeling of what you're going to but I have no idea how to word what I'm trying to say

Iiiiiiis B the avg AHL sv% of NHL starters?

'cause that'd make sense to compare with the AHL sv% of our starter :P

also quoting for posterity:

is that pav's career sv%, but just in the AHL?

A) Pavelec's AHL save %

I'm just going to reword this to make it right:

The SV% threshold an AHL goalie tend to surpass/hit before making the NHL?

Over 80% of NHL goalies (back up or starters) pass that threshold prior to graduating....

Game is over.
Mods can lock if you want unless we want to discuss about how I think Pavelec may be another person to discuss re: ATL rushing into the NHL.

The percentage of Garret's posts that have to do with statistics.

Oh no, you're going to need to take an average of all-time great goalie's best season SV% to get anywhere near high enough for that.

I don't know if it's just because offseason but well done garret I'm having way too much fun with this :D

also, WOO I'll take it :yo: that's basically what I meant, but for some reason putting that idea into words got a little messy :P

I'm just going to reword this to make it right:

But ya the reason for this exercise (other than fun and time killing) is to point something out.

We always talk about whether or not Bogo, Kane and Burmi being rushed into the NHL, but we never have talked about Pavelec.

Things that make you go hmmm....
