Stupid stats because the NHL waited too long to start more hockey

Because I was bored, I wanted to find out two things:

How many total players, since 1917-1918, have scored at least 1 NHL goal, and how many total players have played in at least 1 NHL game.

So here they are:

5438 players have scored at least 1 NHL goal
6945 players have played at least 1 NHL game


So there you go. Also this doesn't include goalies...I don't think.

So including active players, that leaves about 1500 NHLers that never once found the back of the net.

That's pretty bad.

From that group of goalless elite, I wonder who played the most games.

How long did it take to find this out?

Not long. Went to hockey reference, searched for combined seasons since 1917-1918 with the only parameter set at 1 or more games played. Then just scrolled through the list.

A goal scoring machine Gord Strate was not. At all levels of play listed on hockeydb combined, he had fewer goals than seasons played, yet he was still a regular player one season for the Detroit Red Wings. Yeah, he was a defenseman, but... oof. I'd bet there are regular posters here who could score better than that guy. I'm not one of them, but I know some people here were/are pretty good players.
