In recent years:

95-96 Red Wings finished with 132 pts - before overtime rules were changed. Only avs finished with above 100pts (104) and went on to win the Cup.

Canucks in 10-11 were another strong contender.

Buffalo, NY
2005 Sabres. Lost 4 top D and still took Carolina the eventual cup winner to game 7 where Buffalo was leading going into game 7 3rd period.

Just looking at recent history, I feel like the 2013/14 Hawks have to be up there. There are always going to be great regular season teams that fizzle out in the playoffs, but the Hawks were in between Cups and took another mini-dynasty (Kings) to 7 games in the WCF. Powerhouse of a team with proven playoff pedigree that just ran into another team with proven playoff pedigree.

I think the 2014 Bruins might've been even slightly better

why because they won the presidents cup?

you shouldn't be on the list unless you make it to the cup final, let alone losing in the 2nd round to a decent at best canadiens team

09 wings might have been a better team than the 08 wings.
But many wings teams were great in the last 20 years. So we should probably not count the wings in this

2011 Canucks. 1st in scoring, 1st in GAA, 1st in PP%, 3rd in PK%, missed the cup by one game after injuries completely ravaged their lineup.

CASCADIA NOW
2011 Canucks but by the time they got to the final they pretty badly injured. By the time they got to game 7 they were a total shell of themselves. Not even sure their game 7 roster would have made it out of the first round.
