Roussel - 2 years x $3 million cap hit

2020-2021: $2.5 mil in actual salary
2021-2022: $1.9 mil in actual salary

:nucks

Stralman - 2 years x $5.5 million cap hit

2020-2021: $1 mil SB, $4.5 mil in actual salary
2021-2022: $1 mil SB, $4.5 mil in actual salary

FLA pov: They move out Stralman and chase Pietrangelo, one of few teams that can make a competitive offer.
Roussel is an overpaid bottom 6 guy in VAN, he did have a decent 2018-19 though but looked to struggle this past year.

FLA could possibly retain him, pay DET/OTT/NJ to retain and flip him to another team with a cap hit around $1.5 mil per.
Or they keep him this year, save $2.5 mil in cap and buy him out end of 2021
**$1.7 mil in dead cap for 2021-22, 633k in dead cap for 2022-23**

If they keep Roussel for this year, they would have roughly $14 million in space to sign AP and re-sign Weegar and add maybe one more depth guy up front or bring in Borgstrom.

If they retain (FLA and middle team retain) Roussel down to $1.5 million, they have around $16.5 million in space.

Only issue is Stralman was a reason Hornqvist did waive to come to FLA so it may cause some friction but hockey is a business as well.

VAN pov: They are looking for a defensive RD without Tanev coming back. Barrie doesn't seem like a fit since Hughes plays PP. Stralman played 21 mins a night in FLA this past year, 2:29 mins on the PK.
He is overpaid but feel he is the better player than Roussel.

VAN adds $2.5 mil in cap which leaves them with around $5.5 mil to re-sign Gaudette and Virtanen , they could open more space by paying someone to take Sven (maybe retain a portion to make more palatable)
They currently have 5 defensemen signed so adding Stralman makes 6, bring up a prospect for the 7th guy to keep cost low.

Feel Stralman would be open to VAN, they love their Swedes and he would be a solid vet for them in the top 4.

Yay or Nay?

This would have to be for Loui. I know this proposal is to shed cap from Florida but the Canucks are not in a position to add cap really right now either.

Make it Eriksson. We can't take on a higher cap hit for two years, even if the players a little bit more effective.

Eriksson is a serious net negative and feel VAN would need to add a big sweetener, Stralman is still a productive top 4 RD.
You don't have to protect Stralman in expansion draft and could likely move him with one year left if you retain a bit.
Otherwise the buyout for final year is:

2021-22: $2.5 mil in dead cap
2022-23: $1.5 mil in dead cap

Appreciate the feedback, not too many options for VAN to find a defensive RD imo.
What if FLA pays a middle team to retain a bit to bring his cap hit down a bit?
Closer to $4.5 million?
Don't know if you'll find a top 4 D for under $4.5 million.

Pietroangelo isn’t interested in us per Zito.

I think we need cash for another top 6 forward: right now we have a top line and 3 third lines

Why not just re-sign Tanev?

Think he more just said, he sent a text to his agent but didn't go further than that.
Now with STL out after signing Krug, seems VGK is the only main option left but they need to move MAF.

Florlumbus Karpanthers will adapt, top line plays 20 mins, other three lines split the other 40ish mins a night.

They made an offer tonight, Tanev is going to sleep on it.

Oh, didn't hear that, well that's good news for VAN fans then.
Any word what the offer may have been, term wise?
Would assume AAV isn't as public.

No details as far as I am aware. One would assume in and around the Brodie deal though. Hopefully a year less term.

Subject to interpretation with Zito; the context with all the fake rumors implied to me that Pietroangelo wasn’t interesed

So 3 years x $ 5 mil then?
Feel he would want that extra year of security but are you worried to offer 4 because of injury history?
31 in December so this will be his last big payday.
Hopefully Benning can pull it off then, seems to be adored there and for good reason.

Imply better juju then
Would be bad for his negotiating if there's only one team truly interested.

Injury history, perks of being paired with Hughes, discount for the only team he has ever played for, him being a year older than Brodie. Take your pick of reason but I am hoping for a year less term than the Brodie deal for all of those reasons.

I'm not saying it was a good come back offer, but Tanev is still unsigned, so is Stecher, and taking on 2.5 while creating another roster hole doesn't really help us at all. If 2.5 was the going rate for a bottom pairing + (I emphasize the plus) RHD, we would just resign the much younger, and field tested, Stecher, rather then another teams odd piece. We would still be short a top 4 D either way, so it doesn't solve a problem for us.

A sweetener is fine, but it's 500k in cap space for 2 years....that won't be much of a payday. Especially given Erikssons real salary of 1 million, and 4 next year.

None of the selling points really land with us though. We've wanted to remove salary, not add more of it when we NEED cap space next year for our big RFAs. That added 2.5 million, even assuming Stralman stays a top 4 D here, will bite us next off season.
