The quotes going in are encouraging, especially Stammer talking about taking discounts. If we were to pay him his market value, we'll be no better off than we would without him in terms of being able to afford the support players necessary to be an actual contender. We'll need Hedman to take a discount too.

Boston got a huge gift from Bergeron for his last contract. He was coming off a 6.5 AAV deal and a 65 point season and resigned for one year at 2.5 and gave them a 58 point season. I wouldn't expect Stammer to go that low, but the chances of this team becoming a contender again are going to revolve around what it takes to keep him.

Yeah, agreed, especially on those last sentences. Ideally we would want him to stay and then sign another impact player or two -- one offensive, one defensive. Need money.
