The Chicago Blackhawks announced today that they have hired Steve Weeks as the team’s goaltending coach.
“We are thrilled with the addition of Steve Weeks to our organization,†said Blackhawks Vice President and General Manager Stan Bowman. “He has over two decades of professional hockey experience and is a well-respected coach both on and off the ice.â€

Weeks, 55, has more than 25 years of National Hockey League experience as a player, coach and scout, most recently serving as an assistant coach and goaltending specialist for nine seasons with the Atlanta Thrashers from 2001 to 2010. Prior to joining the Thrashers, Weeks spent eight seasons with the Carolina Hurricanes (formerly Hartford Whalers) organization from 1993 to 2001, where he served as a goaltending coach and scout.

“It’s an honor to join a championship caliber organization like the Chicago Blackhawks,†said Weeks. “I look forward to working with Corey (Crawford) and Nikolai (Khabibulin) and helping contribute to the continued success of this franchise.â€

The Scarborough, Ontario, native played 13 seasons in the NHL from 1980 to 1993, appearing in 290 career games with the New York Rangers, Hartford Whalers, New York Islanders, Los Angeles Kings and Ottawa Senators. Prior to his professional career, Weeks appeared in 96 games over four seasons with Northern Michigan University from 1976 to 1980 and was named to the Central Collegiate Hockey Association 1970’s All-Decade Team.

As long as he doesn't change anything with Crawford, it's fine, seems like he has good credentials.

Poor guy, no place to really go but down for the goalie position after last year. I hope we don't read about how "great" Waite was. Who knows, maybe the team defense and Crawford play just as well as last year, but I'm not counting on it.

I have no real opinion on Weeks as a goalie coach, so that's good enough for me.

I'm more excited with what he can do with Raanta who, IMO, has the most potential out of every goalie in our org/system. (although I'm high on Whitney too)

Yes, both very good prospects, also both very different types of goalies, will be interesting to see how they look in training camp.

A guy that has been selling lightbulbs for the last 3 yrs is now good enough to be the goaltending coach of the SC champs.

Was he really selling light bulbs? As for his NHL experience, it is hard to comment on Atlanta, they had a lot of garbage in net but at times, he got guys to play well, such as Hedberg, Lehtonen, Irbe and Burke. So it seems like if you give him legit talent, he can keep them where they need to be. As far as young goalies though, it's hard to say based on who he had to work with. Lehtonen has been a beast his whole life, otherwise, there are not really any prospects to judge him on.
