Do/did these people set off your gay-dar?

[

The entertainment industry is a little more flooded with gays than the sports industry. Not sure why you'd think otherwise. Of all the years you have been on HFboards do you even know a poster on here who is openly gay? I don't and I won't try to guess either. Is there one? Sure there is. But contact sports are not generally the place where you would be flooded with gay men. Sorry.

No, it was a legitimate question. Is there a hockey player that sets off your "gay-dar?" I'm asking out there. I mean in all of history.

At least when we bring up when Steve Smith shot the puck into his own net in 1986 and stopped what likely was 5 Cups in a row it actually happened! Slander happens here all the time but it's true at least when you bring up on-ice play. Not some fairy tale.

Put yourself in Steve Reinprecht's shoes. Or his father's. Or (is he married) his wife? Or his kids. Imagine reading this and having someone you care about be pretty much assumed to be gay without anything near proof. What are you the National Enquirer? If it's an interesting story just print it anyways right?

Who here said he was gay. Everyone was speculating. What you said was slandering the whole gay community and now you are defending yourself by attacking me/us with some nonsense BS.

Talking about "gay-dars" and NHL is too masculine. You are either very ignorant or extremely homophobic. I'm still waiting for answer to above replies.

What above replies? I don't know half of those people. Okay, maybe Neil Patrick Harris can set off one's "gay-dar". You have an NHL player that sets off yours? An honest question.

You are looking into this way too much. First off, it is slandering a guy when you are insinuating what his choice of lifestyle is. Secondly, you are basing it on what appears to be a fictional article. You see nothing wrong with this? You wouldn't mind being a married man with children and reading an entire thread devoted to you that pretty much narrows you down to be gay with no explanation?

There is a reason there is not many men openly gay in contact sports (you seem to be one) but you seem to believe that all male gays are transsexuals. So I'm asking again. Do you know the difference?

There is a big difference between speculating if a public personality is gay and specualting about some random person on a board. First of all public persons hear speculations all day long. Second of all, do you honestly believe this will be headlines in next issue of the "Hockey news"?

I believe that? No, I believe contact sports are not a haven for gay men. You'll see more in other professions, music, entertainment etc. Sorry to disapoint you, but it just is that way, the percentages show that. Secondly, (sigh) yes I know the difference between a tranny and a gay man.

You haven't read THN lately have you? Send that article to Adam Proteau or Ken Campbell, they'll try to get it in there.

Also, I prefer to judge a player based on how he plays the game of hockey. If I think he sucks I say so. If I think he has talent I say so. But I judge from what I hear and see, not speculate and pick out arbitrary names from a hat. Just read the thread from the beginning. Tell me it isn't crazy how all of the sudden Steve Reinprecht is a guy you are promoting as a player that "could be gay". If Reinprecht comes out of the closet then we have a story, until then.........Come back when we are talking hockey history.

Sorry to burst your bubble but ofcourse percentages will show this when no one is openly gay in sports. The only known case in hockey were stabbed to death. Now tell us your hypothesis why homosexuals wouldnt thrive in a contact sport. I sure as hell can't see any reason except if they come out they would get bad reactions from people who are homophobic.

Nobody here judged anyone. People just though it was intresting in speculating about who the article was about. No ne stated that it was Reinprech or Eric Perrin and said that he would send in to THN. We weren't promoting anyone to be gay. Names of people were thrown out there but no one said that he is definitly gay. You however came in and wrote that accusing someone of being gay is worse than slandering him for playing a bad game.

It's very sad that there is people like you still out there slandering the gay community.

Ah that's Ian. Didn't recognize him. Yeah he sets it off a bit.

I just report what I see. No one in the NHL has come out, heck, no one on HFboards makes that claim that I know of. Why is that? I don't know. Hockey is just not filled with homosexuals. My theory? Who knows, maybe a young kid who is in the closet at a young age feels extra intimidated by the amount of testosterone around him, especially being around what is a very tough game. Maybe that makes him feel uncomfortable. Maybe his comfort zone is in the arts. Nothing wrong with that. Read an article by Adam Proteau of THN a couple of years ago. He wrote pretty much that exact same thing. So that would be my hypothesis on why I don't think many of them play hockey professionally. Feel free to disagree, but you asked.

Because the difference is we actually have proof through witnessing watching the game if they played bad or not. Big difference, you should know better. Shall we start a thread based on who we think is on steroids now?

Do you believe that homosexuals lack testosterone or something like that? I don't care what Adam Proteau writes, as far as I know, he doesnt have a degree in behaviourial science nor any other relative degree to that field.

By the way, how do you know that the article is fake?

I would agree with that reasoning, except that there is a well-established standard on HFBoards that we openly speculate about all sorts of things -- whether Doug Gilmour is really a pederast, whether Chris Pronger knocked up a waitress, whether Marc Savard is demanding a trade to make his snotty girlfriend happy.

Most of that stuff probably isn't true, but it appears here with frequency. To single this one out seems a bit... for lack of a better word... discriminatory.

..or "Brett Hull wasn't that good. He just played with a great playmaker like Oates" and "Adam Oates wasn't that good. He just played with a great goalscorer like Hull"

We constantly get biased speculative opinions on the board. BigPhils homophobic one just takes the prize.
