I thought I heard on the radio that Dante Bichette was back around the team working with Bo again but can’t find anything online to confirm…anyone hear this?

Monday morning update:

Defense:
C Kirk 4.3 Def (2nd in baseball, 1st in the AL) and 6 DRS (2nd in the AL and MLB behind Raleigh)

1B Vlad -1.7 Def (22nd in baseball, but rising) and 0 DRS (t-16th) (min 50 innings for 1B because only 4 guys have positive Def scores and a bunch of guys above Vlad are only above him because of less innings)

2B Biggio 0.2 Def, Schneider -0.3 Def and IKF 0.6 Def (IKF, Biggio and Schneider all with 1 DRS)

SS Bichette -0.4 Def and 0 DRS

3B IKF 0.9 Def (13th in MLB and 5th in the AL) with 1 DRS

LF Varsho 3.6 Def (1st by a wide margin) and 5 DRS (2nd in AL and MLB to Greene)

CF Kiermaier 2.4 Def (4th in AL and MLB) and Varsho with 0.5 Def (25th MLB) (KK has 1DRS and Varsho 0)

RF Springer with -0.2 Def and 2 DRS (tied for 10th)

Projected Standings:
Jays 83-79 (13th in MLB, 1GB of 3rd WC)

Playoff Odds
Jays 82-80 37% chance of making the playoffs.

Still maintain this is a good team that hasn’t come remotely close to reaching its potential. No one had this team as average or below average at pretty much every position except LF and to still be only 2.0 GBs of a WC where you’re chasing 2 wildcard teams of Detroit and KC. I’m not concerned.

If these numbers are maintained throughout June and July then I’ll be concerned. Until then it will be a bumpy ride but the core guys will eventually show up and some guys will emerge.

And what’s fascinating to me is that as good as the Yanks offence has been to start the year, they’ve been shutout 5 times already.

And while the O’s still have a good pen, they aren’t benefiting from pretty much an automatic 9th inning from Bautista. They’re 2nd in blown saves already and Kimbrel is leading the charge.

Rosenthal basically says here that if they are still around the .500 mark at the trade deadline they have to seriously consider being sellers this season.

This team is missing a viable 5th starter
-YRod (who also has an reported IP limit for the season of around 100 innings) and Bowden Francis are both guys who either need to piggyback off each other, or with Trevor Richards
-Manoah is cooked
-Tiedemann is hurt

Making matters worse, Bo Bichette's performance has also regressed, as the shortstop is hitting just .210 with a .568 OPS so far this year (even on a rest day Monday, Bichette worked out in the team's batting cages alongside his father, former big-leaguer Dante Bichette).

Interesting blurb from BNS' latest article. Seems like Dante Bichette is back around the team.

What’s the point of saying YRod and Francis need to be piggybacked while Tieds is just hurt? They’d all be on innings limits if healthy. Plus once stretched they would’ve been able to go 5+.

Regardless… next man up. Maybe Paxton Schultz? Probably Espino. But it would also be hilarious if Manoah gets the call.

Speaking of which… 4 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 7 Ks so far for Manoah today going toe to toe against Skenes.

BTV really needs to update this. Berrios is not negative value, lol. His contract is looking like a good deal, not a liability.

Because isn't Tiedemann going to be out for a while, and YRod/Francis are short term injuries?

People around the team are already saying YRod should be in the bullpen for optimal management of his 100 IP limit this season.

I guess you could say it's too short of a sample on Francis to say for sure whether he can handle being a starter or not, but we already know he's very effective out of the bullpen.

Schultz, Espino, and Manoah are all scrub minor leaguers. AAAA at best. Manoah's good start with Buffalo doesn't change my mind at all. Mitch White was lights out after the Jays sent him down last season.

I had no idea that Rod Black's son was pro ball player

He’s also a legitimately good hitter. Canada’s offence is going to be sneaky good next WBC with him, Julien, the Naylor’s, Cassie, and Freeman. Also with the renos done and the AS game in sight I wouldn’t be surprised if we host a group for the 2026 WBC.
