Hello, HFBoards. It's been a while.

I have been on a bit of a football strategy kick. I really want to know the difference between traditional spot drop coverage vs. pattern matching coverage. Would you favor one over the other?

Thank you for your time.

honestly from my time, the best way to describe it is Drop Spot, is a zone where you're more focused on getting to a certain spot, some people refer to it as covering grass.

While the pattern is essentially what it reads, if let's say a LBer is in a curl/hook zone but notices a WR is doing a slant, it gives them a little bit more flexibility to go out of their zone and follow the route a little more.

depending on the playbook, pattern matching would kind of work similar to an option route on offence. defender has to make a decision between dropping in zone or playing man
