Sometimes I want to leave you
Sometimes I want to go
Right back where I came from
Back where I belong
But it never lasts for too long
Always goes away
Well I still don't look for reasons
That's much too hard these days
Why worry about the rain?
Why worry about the thunder?
Honey, Century City's got everything covered
Well, your mama gave you lovin'
Mama held you near
Baby, mama can't do nothin'
Honey, mama just ain't here
And you can pretend all you want to
But that won't work no more
No, you can't run back to daddy
Yeah, you tried that once before
Why worry about your father?
Why worry about your mother?
Honey, Century City's got everything covered
We're gonna live in Century City
Go ahead and give in, Century City
Like modern men, modern girls
We're gonna live in the modern world
Woah
We're gonna live in Century City
Go ahead and give in, Century City
Like modern men, modern girls
We're gonna live in the modern world
Sometimes I get discouraged
Sometimes I feel so down
Sometimes I get so worried
But I don't know what about
But it works out in the long run
Always goes away
And I've come now to accept it
As a reoccurring phase
Don't worry about the rain
Don't worry about the thunder
Honey, Century City's got everything covered
We're gonna live in Century City
We're gonna live in Century City
We're gonna live in Century City
We're gonna live in Century City

Men In Hats - The Safety Dance

(The song is a mockery of the bouncers who would kick out pogo dancers because they were perceived to be too dangerous.)

Jay Z talking about Prince after he died. His lawyer, his music rights and how the industry people tried to make a profit on his death.

I sat down with Prince, eye to eye
He told me his wishes before he died
Now, Londell McMillan, he must be color blind
They only see green from them purple eyes
They eyes hide, they eyes high
My eyes wide shut to all the lies
These industry n*****, they always been fishy
But ain't no Biggie, no lazy eye, huh
This guy had 'Slave' on his face
You think he wanted the masters with his masters?
You greedy bastards sold tickets to walk through his house
I'm surprised you ain't auction off the casket

Nipsey Hussle (RIP)

Labels used to treating rappers like a slave
Starving artist, "Just be happy with your fame"
Shit changed, now it's such a different game
All the n***** like myself is controlling everything
If you pay attention see exactly what I mean
f*** the middleman, I said that in 2003
[...]
Cuban links and Rolexes, fold a check from Epic
This industry ain't gotta like us but they gon' respect it
Built the label up from money we was saving up
No details 'til the statute of limitations up

Small my table, sits just two
Got so crowded, I can't make room
Oh, where did they come from? Stormed my room
And you dare say it belongs to you
For you
This is not for you
This is not for you
This is not for you
Oh, never was for you

All that's sacred, comes from youth
Dedications, naive and true
With no power, nothin' to do
I still remember, why don't you?
Don't you?
This is not for you
This is not for you
This is not for you
Oh, never was for you
f*** you

This might be the most subversive song about the music industry ever written.

The musically "lazy" chord structure viewed in combination with the meta-lyrics reveal the true extent of what a critic for The AV Club describes as song's "genius": "the commentary is a big joke about how listeners will like just about anything laid on top of the chords of the infinitely clichéd Pachelbel canon, even lyrics that openly mock them for liking it."

It doesn't matter what I say
So long as I sing with inflection
That makes you feel I'll convey
Some inner truth or vast reflection
But I've said nothing so far
And I can keep it up for as long as it takes
And it don't matter who you are
If I'm doing my job then it's your resolve that breaks

Because the Hook brings you back
I ain't tellin' you no lie
The Hook brings you back
On that you can rely

There is something amiss
I am being insincere
In fact I don't mean any of this
Still my confession draws you near
To confuse the issue I refer
To familiar heroes from long ago
No matter how much Peter loved her
What made the Pan refuse to grow

Was that Hook brings you back
I ain't tellin' you no lie
The Hook brings you back
On that you can rely

Suck it in suck it in suck it in
If you're Rin Tin Tin or Anne Boleyn
Make a desperate move or else you'll win
And then begin
To see
What you're doing to me this MTV is not for free
It's so PC it's killing me
So desperately I sing to thee
Of love
Sure but also of rage and hate and pain and fear of self
And I can't keep these feelings on the shelf
I've tried well no in fact I lied
Could be financial suicide but I've got too much pride inside

To hide or slide
I'll do as I'll decide and let it ride until I've died
And only then shall I abide this tide
Of catchy little tunes
Of hip three minute diddys
I wanna bust all your balloons
I wanna burn all your cities to the ground
I've found
I will not mess around
Unless I play then hey
I will go on all day. Hear what I say
I have a prayer to pray
That's really all this was
And when I'm feeling stuck and need a buck
I don't rely on luck because

The Hook brings you back
I ain't tellin' you no lie
The Hoooooook
On that you can rely
