Sometimes stats...are just stats.

So, here is a golden example of stat-watching that I thought you would all enjoy.

I'm debating with a friend, via text-message, about Crosby. He tells me that Crosby is (and I quote), "So-so, only people from Pittsburgh think he's a star."

I tell him that's not even close to accurate, and he needs to watch the game. He says that he hasn't been good since 2010, and numbers don't lie. His GP from the last 3 years add up to his 2010 year. He says that it's a fact, he's put up 66% less GP than any of his past years.

At this point, I think he's just trolling me. I tell him Lemieux rarely had a full season, and he's one of the best ever. He replies that in 05-09, he had 60-80 GP. The last few years post-injury, he has 41, 22, and 36.

It finally clicks in my head. I ask him if he realize that GP is games played.

"That's not goal points?"

Remember when Dave Molinari mistook PIMs for points when we acquired Darryl Sydor? And he published an article stating Sydor once had a 94 point season.
