Going by cap friendly, don't we have to protect (unless they waive) Barkov, Huberdeau, Hornqvist, and Acciari? Am I reading that right?
Nope.
We have to protect Huberdeau, Yandle and Bobrovsky who all have NMCs. Huberdeau is a given; with Bob it is what it is; Yandle waiving would be great though because even if Seattle doesn't pick him (wouldn't that be nice), we could then go 7-3-1 with no hesitation, protecting Ekblad-Weegar-Forsling.

I think it's going to be really interesting to see how many of the guys on that list get dealt before the draft. Teams made a ton of mistakes in the Vegas draft and set them up in a great spot to ice a solid team from the start, I can't see GM's making those same mistakes with Seattle.

And yet Seattle could have a goaltending corps of Hill, Driedger, Khudobin and Allen.

You might be right, sure, but a middle six centre sure seems more valuable to me, the general public and the pundits.

Yeah Seattle taking Tierny from the Senators makes a lot of sense. The guy gets a bad rap in Ottawa. He is a very unspectacular player but he can play all roles and is a decently productive 2nd or 3rd line center.

He's just been pushed out of some of his niches by Ottawa's incredibly strong prospect depth making their push into the big league. He could do a lot for Seattle.

Hopefully given the plethora of goalies available, the Kraken won't be looking to take one of Ottawa's young goalies. But if they're looking to bring in a potential future starter they may be the target. Who knows.

Any time I see McCann's name on something like this I immediately stop reading. There is not one single good reason for Hextall to protect an older, more expensive, lesser player just because the old GM paid a premium to acquire him. I don't need to insult Zucker to place McCann above him...but it'd be pretty easy to do both.

How is Cap Friendly deciding who protected?
Just them guessing really. They left some names on their they were shocking. Like Toews got the AVS. I didn’t pick him because there’s no way he’s not protected. The other teams I was trying to figure out how they protected instead of guys like Lowry or Bennett. The names available after those guys I don’t like at all so I just took them. It’s a mock so not too serious. Fun to do though.

I have to agree with almost every other Penguin fan in here. I don't see a functional or reasonable reason to leave McCann unprotected for any other forward not named Crosby, Malkin, Guentzel, Rust, Blueger, or Kapanen.

Personally I'd rather lose Benson of the two

Jones will be the Theodore of this ED of claimed

I rather give then a first to take Neal, and save sll prospect sometimes. But yes. Bensons goalscoring seems very low. Maybe he isnt a lost

I don't see Boston leaving Lauzon exposed unless they have to.
Which of McAvoy, Gryz or Carlo are you exposing then?

If you want them to go 4+4 then (Obviously Bergeron/March/Pasta are safe and Coyle NMC) which of Smith, Debrusk, Ritchie, Lazar are you fine losing?

Its probably Lauzon who's gone

This is...so bad. Seattle is not taking like 2/3rds of these players? Johansen? Johnsson? Holtby? Like LOL.

SI is pretty out-to-lunch on hockey.

I mean maybe if 1st rounders are included. All these mocks with no projected trades are unrealistic.

Allen held back STL from every going anywhere. MON in some bizarre way traded for him and he's mediocre there too. Third times a charm? or he's just a meh goalie.

He's the best back-up we had since the beginning of the Price Era, after Halak lol
He's no Dominick Hasek, but he's doing fine

No chance Mayfield is left unprotected.
Barring a trade, Seattle can choose from Leddy at $5.5M for one year or Bellows.

Personally, I'd expose Eberle rather than Bellows. Eberle is 31 and although he has heart, he's not strong or tough enough to win the important 1 on 1 battles in the playoffs. The Isles need for cap relief is also a factor in this list.

You're welcome Lou.
