I think it's a tough situation.

You'd want the teams to prove that there was actually an intent for these players to be part of their team if the season was going to normally end in June. You don't want there be an extra benefit for these teams and players only because of COVID.

But how can they realistically prove that? Maybe they can, and my lack of work in an NHL front-office is the reason why I don't know that.

I can understand both viewpoints, but I have no issue with what the league decides either way.
