Don't know whether Roy is playing injured, sick or possibly having an off night but as the second period is coming to a close, he has not looked anything like a future NHL top 6 forward

Sure. The guy made an elite beautiful pass on the only goal for his team, and was stoped by a good goalie on a breakaway. All that without one of his linemate, Xavier Parent, second for points on the team, and the best offensive D, David Spacek. I watched the whole game. Roy is not a great puck carrier. He rarely keeps the puck for a long time. He always looks for a pass option, or to make himself a good target for a pass. The best example of that was on his breakaway.

Even though he is a winger, he reminded me to some extent of Mike Ribeiro. Not the fastest, that is sure, but very high hockey IQ, good vision, great passer, good shot too. He needs linemates able to carry the puck with speed into the offensive zone, and he does not need the puck on his stick for a long time to make a decisive pass. Obviously he will need to work on his speed. He is only 18.5 years old. He will play junior next season, add to that one year in Laval, and in two and a half year we will see where he is at. He is not an exceptional player, he will need maturation before playing with the big team. But he has a very high hockey IQ and vision. He is not flashy, the kind of player that you sometimes don't see that much in a game, but ends up with a couple of points. He will also be a great power play player able to make decisive passes à la Markov. Patience. This is a good one.

What a pick by Montreal Canadiens. Can't believe that we got him at 5th round.

He have the talent to become one of the best in his draft class, tremendous pick right there.

60 points in 33 games? Impressive stats.

Some very skilled, high touted kids at Midget level, make adjustments after sub par season(s), like Nicolas Roy drafted by Carolina (now with Vegas), who was drafted in a 4th round and finally blossoms. Duclair too.

I wanted the Habs to pick Nicolas Roy in 2015, another former 1st overall pick from the Q, but they chose an overager, Vejdemo instead. Timmis said in an interview that they liked Roy, but had worries about his skating. Then he said, he was able to overcome that and made it to the NHL. All that to say that skating can be improved, and talent can also compensate for that relative weakness. We had a good example of that with Toffoli.

Trevor Timmins avoue regretter ne pas avoir repêché ces 3 joueurs Québecois

I hear what you are saying and preaching patience at this point is wise.

No idea why the past management passed on both.

Maybe they finally learned with this Roy.
