The two-time Stanley Cup champion was an unrestricted free agent in the offseason before signing with Washington. After spending the first three years of his career with Pittsburgh, he was traded to the Buffalo Sabres in June 2018 in a salary-clearing move. He returned to Pittsburgh at the 2020 trade deadline. With Pittsburgh, he had a $3 million salary cap hit.

This contract sort of makes up for Hagelin's.
We signed Hagelin and Panik both at 4 years 11M (2.75 per). Figured one would work. I actually liked Panik better. Remember he was beast on 4th line last year. But Hags has excelled this year. I’d still rather have him cheaper or replace him with cheaper. But not bad.

LOVE the Sheary signing.

have to judge a GM by their body of work. Not on individual trades. Overall GMBM continuously proves he is good and balancing the cap and getting right players assembled (as a whole).

Incredible! Not just a role player. Often the best player on the ice. And bonus is the twist of the knife in the sides of Penguins fans. Great signing. Better player!

Sheary earned his check. He came is without any promise of getting to play and has become part of the team. This kind of thing usually indicates a place earned in the room with the other players. They want him there. Good for him.
