rumor is shatty is getting healthy scratched. The rangers are rebuilding and would probably just like to move on at this point. while shattenkirk isnt the defensive minded guy the leafs probably need, he would still be an upgrade. He would also give a big jolt to the 2nd unit PP (Marleau-Nylander- Johnsson- Gardiner-Shattenkirk)

Leafs: Shattenkirk
Rangers: 2019 1st rd pick, Borgman, Timashov

We need a guy who will help our defense 5on5, not push a forward off the 2nd pp unit for 2 minutes a night. I'm not super opposed to Shattenkirk, but he's pretty far down on the list of needs.

Our PP is already great. We don't need Shattenkirk. Waste of cap space. I dont really see him as a fit on the Leafs. Would much rather target solid defensive dmen (Manson, Matheson etc.) then a Shattenkirk type.

I still don't get the Shattenkirk hype, never did. He's a great tool in PP, but not a legit #1D. How will Toronto even manage to get under the cap if they add him? I just don't see him as a great fit.
Agree and IMO he's not even a great power play tool. The Caps grabbed him for their playoff run two seasons ago and he flopped big time on the power play. He also misses too many games with injury.

If we don't need the PP help, then why target a Shattenkirk type at all? I would think if the defensive players we target don't work out, we wouldn't then decide to target a different kind of player.

Shattenkirk to Leafs is absolutely silly. Leafs can't afford Gardiner next year, and the Leafs certainly don't want to trade for a player who will make more than Gardiner and is worse than Gardiner.
Leafs don't need Shattenkirk for his prowess on the PP. And his even strength play is poor.
Two seasons ago he was the the 3rd best RHD on the Blues behind Pietrangelo and Parayko.
Seems like folks are so enthralled with scoring points. Of course when it comes to the Leafs, so many folks think ANY RHD regardless of NHL competence is a Norris candidate.

Didn’t we just have this discussion? Leafs don’t need Shatty (need a defensive D) and they’re better off saving that 7 mil

Also, I still believe Shatty is still injured from last year and that Quinn scratched him to give him the week off to heal and to get a better look at Deangelo and Pionk

he's a PP specialist and that's one of the last things the Leafs need. Astounded this was made by a Leafs fan. 6.65M cap hit and need to sign Nylander, Matthews and Marner, how is this going to work?

I remember when a lot of folks on HF where mocking Blues fans when we were saying that Shatty was a one trick PP pony and his defense was sheltered by our system and better defensemen. Fast forward to today....

Shatty got here, taking a bit less $ and like half-ish term to do so.
Was fab first 3ish wks last yr
Got injured.
Out of stupid arrogance, and damn that illegitimate child AV for his effin win now at all costs play the vets into the ground attitude, Shatty played when he immediately should have healed.
He was finally shut down.

It was thought/hoped by now, he would be fully healed, and this is not the case.
No one publicly knows extent of damage.

this explains inconsistent somewhat subpar results this yr

best case scenario, he takes time he needs, fully heals, returns to form

worst case scenario, he can lace up skates, but not play like before.
thus overpaid
does not qualify for LTIR
if this is the case, we can carry him this yr and maybe next [assuming rest does not help heal]. Then w/a yr/yr+ we ask him to retire, which he is hopefully smart enough to do. We nudge him to a desk/consulting gig and he is not out $.

Shat has limited ntc
he will not likely want to waive, and w/out return to form, no enthusiastic trade partner

premise flawed
close thread or let it die a natural death

1. Shatty is not the type of defenseman we need.

2. We can't afford his cap hit.

3. He's coming off a bad season last year and he's already been scratched this season. He's not worth a 1st and two prospects (or quasi-prospects in Borgman's case) right now.

4. We're stacking the PP1 this season and it's going pretty damn well. There's not a lot of incentive to throw away assets to improve the PP2.

5. The entire thing is premised on him rebounding back to his old self. If he doesn't then he's not really an upgrade over Gardiner on the PP2 anyway.

Yeh, the Leafs can totally afford a near 7 mill add for a PP defenseman....

someone who needs an PP QB will outbid that, and he's really not the type of guy that Toronto should target. Not a likely marriage to be made
