tl;dr - Sharks two games before Christmas (VAN, EDM) postponed.

Yep.

And with 27+ games postponed (and counting) I'm thinking the NHL pulls the plug on Olympic participation.

(Canada is considering withdrawing from the Spengler Cup due to covid concerns.)

Now is the time to get some trades done, and bring up the young guns when the league gets out of this postponement phase. If DW waits until the TDL, he'll likely get nothing but draft choices that are not lottery eligible.

I should plug in my N64 and watch it do CPU vs CPU games of NHL 99 on Tuesday and Thursday. Just so I can get my fix in the most random way possible. Or use NHL 2001 on the PS1 so that there's halfway decent play-by-play and that Collective Soul opening. :sarcasm:

Too bad I lack the knowledge and likely the equipment to stream it short of pointing my phone at the TV screen or I'd make an actual GDT out of it

Im quite worried about the world juniors cancelling.

They've already cancelled part of the pre tournament games.

There's a holiday roster freeze. Don't recall the exact dates, but it may be until 12/27 or so.

NHL 2001 opening is peak hockey video game hype video.

Edit: rescinded. I was thinking of a different NHL intro video all together.

Edit 2: I needed a bit of googling, what I meant to say was, NHL 2000 Garbage “Push it” is peak hockey video game hype video. Though, having now rewatched it, I’ll admit nostalgia is a factor here

Anything with Garbage is usually solid. I usually stump for their James Bond contribution, "The World is Not Enough" being one of the more underrated bond themes.

NHL 2001 is also getting some rub here because it was the one with Owen Nolan on the cover.

I have a Playlist on my iPod with all the Bond movie themes (and a few others from the movies). Some songs are downright inspired.

Live and Let Die may be my all time favorite.

Nothing about refunds, yet.

Nobody Does it Better is the best Bond theme, and Moonraker is the only one that comes close imo. HM to Thunderball, A View to a Kill, Live and Let Die, and You Only Live Twice.

Solid Bond theme, absolutely terrible movie. Proper F-tier Bond movie.

Oh absolutely. The movie is (pun fully intended) total garbage. The song deserved a much better movie to be tethered to. It's kind of unfortunate that most of Brosnan's work after Goldeneye was wasted in bad movies, but at least they didn't waste any absolute bangers on the musical side of things. Except for the case of self-sabotage in Tomorrow Never Dies where they ousted k.d. Lang from the title slot so they could have Sheryl Crow's star power even though Lang's song is a billion times better and apparently was the basis of most of the rest of the film's score whereas Crow's song is... alright I guess. You can even just plug it back into the credit sequence and it mostly works

I probably can't be tasked to pick a favorite reliably because I would probably put Casino Royale's theme, You Know My Name by Chris Cornell up near the top even though I routinely see it ranked as one of the worst Bond themes in various rankings that exist out there  (though I do offer the caveat that I only count the arrangement used for the movie itself with the brassy orchestral backing and not the generic alt-rock normal cut that appears on most albums. I specifically got a Bond theme album off iTunes specifically because it was one of the only places that actually used that version of the song.

Other considerations are Nobody Does It Better (from The Spy Who Loved Me) by Carly Simon, We Have All the Time in the World by Louie Armstrong (kind of a cheat because OHMSS actually used an instrumental title theme), Goldfinger by Shirley Bassey (or really most of her contributions), Skyfall by Adele, and yes, Live & Let Die (even if I'm not a fan of the weird psychedelic breakdown bit in the middle). As diverse as my musical tastes are though, I really really miss a classic big brassy orchestra backed theme like the older movies. Starting in the 80s with A-Ha's The Living Daylights everything got really poppy and loaded with synth and whatnot. Right up to the interminably awful Madonna song

If it's anything like other covid rescheduling refund setups I've seen they won't start accepting/processing refunds until the makeup dates are announced.

In my recent Bond-A-Thon, Tomorrow Never Dies actually held up better than I thought. It's a good C/C+. The other Brosnans are garbage except for GoldenEye (my vote for the straight-up best Bond, period - even better than Goldfinger, Spy Who Loved Me, you name it). Theme-wise though, yea, very forgettable for the most part. Sheryl Crow I also just personally hate because she basically got famous off of the effort of one of my favorite artists, who she basically didn't credit at all for essentially making her career.

I do like Billie Eilish's theme for NTTD. It's very dour but fitting. The new Bonds all have at least average themes.

Tomorrow Never Dies is mostly saved by the fact that Michelle Yeoh is awesome and I will always be there for something that she's in (except the new Star Trek show, which suuuuuuuuuuuucks out loud) and she and Brosnan have fun chemistry in it.

also yes, I'm aware this thread has gone massively off track. It's basically the non-GDT for the non-games now and GDTs going off track when there's nothing else to talk about is a proud Sharks tradition.

If I don't do the NHL video game thing on Tuesday maybe we should all just watch Spaceballs together at 7:30 instead :sarcasm:

Well that sucks. I guess it would be too much to ask to have CSN California telecast Barracuda games while we wait for the Sharks to return to action. I mean, from time to time I think they play Santa Cruz Warriors games.

Now the Sharks’ schedule will become even more condensed. There should have been a back up plan in place for when this inevitably occurred, but guess they’ll just make one up as they go.

Well that's disappointing, and I'm curious to how the NHL decides to move forward in regards to testing.
I've heard the NFL might only test those who are asymptomatic, as long as they are fully vaccinated. I also know many friends in health care who have been told around 85% of the population is estimated to end up with this new variant at some point.

If the league does shut down for a little to get more control of the situation, I'm happy I just got into first place in my fantasy league before it happened

I think "You Know My Name" is a kick-ass song that makes a mediocre Bond theme, kind of like I think Casino Royale is a kick-ass movie that's not much of a Bond film (I think it's better than most Bond films, but misses the point of him being basically a cartoon for grown-ups). Still, it's better than that Jack White/Alicia Keys deal for Quantum of Solace.

For me, it's "Goldfinger," "Thunderball" and "Diamonds are Forever" for the best Bond themes, and "You Know My Name," "You Only Live Twice" and "A View to a Kill" for best pop songs used as Bond themes, if that makes sense.
