Source: Shark head won't travel if Sharks play 'home' games elsewhere

If the Sharks aren't playing in Santa Clara county/San Jose, the Shark head won't be where they there.

Schedule is such that the first home games aren't until the beginning of February. (So that gives the SCC powers more time)

Regardless, it any non-SAP Center home game would be on NEUTRAL ICE. (So the Sharks will not be playing in their opponent's rink for a home game.)

From social media, it appears the team has taken over warehouse like building near Ice Den and guys are suiting up and walking over to ice rink. Stats that it took a day to drive from SJ, two days to set up lockers.

Each player has a folding chair next to a wheeled rack. Side of rack has vinyl-like divider with player name and # rack has shelves.for pads, helmets, etc. Jersey hung on hanger. Hooks for laundry bag and more. Guys walk to rink in sandals and put on skates there.

And WRT AHL Barracuda....

A number of CHLers and AHLers.have been around skating separately from NHLers before camp opens.

Only one county away, Warriors are able to play at home. Seems kind of insane.

Two counties away (San Mateo and then San Francisco).

Some of the Sharks players say they drove to Alameda county and practiced at Sharks Ice Fremont, until camp started. (About 18 miles away)

The two other NHL teams and four other AHL teams in California don't have this issue.
Why the Sharks then, and not the others? One wold think the government would be consistent across the entire state, so there is a sense of fairness.

Santa Clara County government decided this, not the State government. County doesn't have to care about the rest of the state's decisions.

So the system is bad? Is that why taxes are so high in California, because of all the different levels of government having so much authority?

Taxes in California are a very complicated and political issue that I don't think we can get into, but when it comes to state-county relations, the answer is basically no.

Santa Clara County's health officer, who answers to the County government, has said "no hockey or football." San Francisco (which to aid in confusion is both a city and a county - San Jose is an incorporated city within Santa Clara County) has not said "no basketball or baseball." That's basically the difference.

Sounds like it would be a lot simpler and a lot cheaper to have all these decisions made at the state level, and keep the local city councils limited in what they can order.

(Northern California here is the far northern counties. Mainly rural.)

MLS Earthquakes also call SCC home. As of November, the league was targeting March season start. So, any favorable decision the Sharks get might also impact them.

MiLB San Jose also impacted. Their season seems to be planned for April start.

NCAA sports - SJSU, Stanford, lots of junior colleges, could be impacted. And HS sports.

Don't know if they will change February 1, 3 games from Arizona, but maybe. Should be able to for mid February games.

Barracuda might be able to come home as well before their scheduled late February dates (with season opening "home" dates originally set to be played in Arizona).
