This is the reason. The Penguins draft just fine. The problem is they don't draft enough.
what makes it even worse is the Pens don't play the guys they are drafting...

you've summed it up quite well. all I could add is my tears, frustration and increasing dislike for this front office.Yup. They've done very well with the late 1st round picks, but we haven't taken advantage by playing them and turning expiring contracts into long term assets. If you move Orpik for a winger when you sign Scuds, don't send out two 2nds for Murray when Despres was already on the team and trade Martin or Niskanen before the 2013-2014 season we have something on the order of 2 extra impact NHLers and 2 good draft choices in addition to what we have today. That's without getting lucky in trades or anything. We also should have moved Scuds when we could have, re-signed at most 1 of Duper and Kunitz and only to 2 year contracts and obviously not thrown away Despres.
We got lucky with Sprong, Maatta and Despres being ready to play so quickly after being drafted and we've done nothing with it. We got lucky with Niskanen breaking out and Ehrhoff signing for 4M but we did nothing with it. No NHL 16 trades necessary, all obvious stuff that many people here wanted while it was happening. What a shame
What's the point of writing "free ic" when the dude isn't even around to see it. Yeesh.
