Next year Sandersons contract kicks in, plus guys coming off Ltir? Gonna be tight?
I don't think they have an issue I believe last year the sens fans were adamant that if they got past this year they have the money opening up for him so I'm thinking they probably know ?

He is playing very well tho

As usual with offer sheets, who has the cap space, motivation, and requisite draft picks to do it? 5 mil AAV offer sheet would require a 1st+3rd.

Teams who have already dealt their 2025 1st: Colorado, Calgary (conditional), Vegas, Tampa, Toronto, Florida

Teams who have already dealt their 2025 3rd: Colorado, Vancouver, New Jersey (conditional), Calgary (conditional), Vegas (conditional), Carolina, Toronto, Florida, NY Rangers (conditional), San Jose, Dallas

And then typically the teams who have the cap space tend to be rebuilding clubs who aren't going to risk sending away an unprotected 1st. Maybe there's a match elsewhere but most teams tend to have their own contract problems.

Given the gambling issues, I think Pinto is going to be radioactive for a couple of seasons.

Gambling is too important as league revenue for teams to even want to appear not to take it seriously.

he's not radioactive. this isn't a social issue that gets people riled up. most people detest the hypocrisy from the league and gambling industry more than anything. He's not radioactive unless you think he's gonna do it again which would be hilarious.

Depends what happened.

It's likely he gambled for/against the Senators with inside information. They wouldn't just throw a 41 game suspension on him that he negotiated down and gave up his right to appeal due to gambling without it being more serious than the league led on.

That said, I don't think teams care that much about his gambling past.

The NHL saying he didn't bet on NHL games doesn't add up because NHL players are allowed to bet on non-NHL games.

The most obvious point of confusion?

The line in the NHL statement, which said, “The League’s investigation found no evidence that Pinto made any wagers on NHL games.”

Article 14.1 in the CBA states that players can’t bet on NHL games, but there are no other gambling restrictions included in that document. Some individual teams may forbid staff (including players) from betting with specific club betting partners because of the language included in those contractual arrangements, according to multiple team sources, but beyond that, everything else is fair game.

Placing online bets on NFL or college football games? Swinging by a sportsbook during a road trip to Las Vegas to lay down a World Series futures wager? Conducting a Masters pool in the dressing room? Those are all fine for NHLers.

The teams know it, too, which is why multiple executives who spoke with The Athletic expressed a measure of frustration with the secrecy around the Pinto case. There’s clearly a lesson to be shared with their players here — but what exactly is it?

With OTT up against the cap, who takes a multi year offer sheet to grab this kid?

I think a 3 year x 5 mill offer is pretty reasonable for a good young two way centre, and COULD Ottawa even match it with their cap situation?
Lol Ottawa is about to begin a lengthy rebuild, how are they up against the cap?

Then why wouldn't he appeal a 41 game suspension?
I would guess that he didn't appeal because the evidence against him was clear, and he didn't have a case. The NHLPA did go hard for him, and he and the PA still agreed to 41 games. There are not a lot of public details regarding this case. All we really know is:

- Bettman clearly stated that Pinto did not bet on NHL games. I don't think Bettman would be stupid enough to lie about it.
- Pinto stated to reporters that he was caught off-guard. It seems he wasn't even aware that he was breaking any rules at the time.
- Players are allowed to gamble, just not on the NHL (any team, not just their own).

Dreger speculated that Pinto shared his online gambling account with someone else, and security flagged his account because the activity came from an unknown device. It's quite possible, and it's hard to imagine another scenario that makes sense given the facts, but Dreger is still just purely speculating.

The NHL and NHLPA negotiated the 41 game suspension.

It turns out there’s a very good reason: According to league sources, the punishment was the result of a negotiated settlement, not a formal disciplinary proceeding.

There will be no option for appeal in the Pinto matter since the NHL and NHL Players’ Association both had a seat at the table and a say in the 41-game suspension he accepted.

The case is considered closed as long as no new information emerges.

Pinto allowed someone to use his account. Pinto was in Ottawa or some city on the road and his account was being in NY. Red flags came up. Pinto got into trouble.

Against the cap? Murray and Tarasenko retention are done (4 M$), Ryan and DelZotto buyout are done and Colin White is a surplus (4 M$) so that covers Sanderson contract. Kubalik is UFA and I would be surprised to see Brannstrom qualified (4,5 M$). That would cover the 5 M$ you want to offer.

I can't tell if you are being sarcastic, but that would absolutely be a TOS violation for both FanDuel and BetMGM.
