So this means the Broncos are spending several million in cap space to move their 7th rounder up ~15-20 spots. Ok.

Wouldnt they’ve had to pay that money regardless if he was released, because of guarantees?

To me it looks like they save a minimal amount of money and get to move up a few spots late in draft.

They at least get an ounce of value back on a bad investment

More like the Jones knew he was a "bad boy" and held their line. If another team was going to let him sign without such stipulations, it would most likely result in a nonproductive Randy Gregory, which was proved true.
